Big East Football
Was reading some SFU posting and they going on and on about 5 fifth straight bowl season.. I was like I know I not the biggest college football fan but who are they and how'd they make 5 bowls in a row..
So I looked it up... The big east has 6 tie ins and 8 teams. My take on that is you would have to really stink to not get in a bowl. With a BCS auto to boot. I am sorry but I did not think big east football was all that...
oh an the only team that I believe is good year in year out they played in a bowl game was Oregon.. in the Sun ... they were killed..
So on the other side.. they send a team to Canada each year and have been lucky enough to squeak out a win... 3 in a row.
I think NIU needs to put and end to the streak of big east wins cause they are not all that ....

RE: Big East Football
A few positives about the Big East this year.
Had 4 ranked teams at a few points in the season.(1. Cincinnati, 2. Pittsburgh, 3. USF/Rutgers, 4. WVU)
Cincinnati is undefeated this year with there best OOC win against Oregon State, they play UF in the sugar bowl. (Beat USF 34-17 in tampa)
So far USF is 2-2 in 4 bowl games.

USF is a big time program with big time jocks. They will be the most athletic team we have seen since TCU.

It's strange but the campus is actually in Tampa which is on the West coast and pretty much in the dead center of Florida N-S wise.

They were in the title picture a couple of years ago..then again, who wasn't in 2007? It's going to be a good test for NIU, no doubt about it.

BCS program, beaten teams such as FSU, Auburn, and Kansas, and has owned WVU the last 4 years. Play in front of home crowds of 60,000+...
Fairly big time, though, without any championships.

Aren't you guys also a really large school in size too? I thought I read you are like 6th in the nation in students size.

When the Legislature created USF they intended it to be the southernmost state university in Florida. Like always, the politicians were very prophetic as there are 3 state universities south of Tampa now. I like the name, having gone there years ago and gotten used to it.

A very impressive record, for a team that has really made it big very quickly.
How long have they been in the Big East?
Seems like they beat West Virginia and Florida State.

USF started its program in 1996 and played its first seaosn in 1AA in 1997. We jumped to 1A in 2001. We were independent in 2002 and joined CUSA (where all our other sports had been playing) in 2003. We moved to the Big East in 2005. Given our short history its not too hard to run down our biggest wins:
2005 beat the then #9 UL Cards 45-14
2006 beat top 20 WVU on the road
2007 beat top 20 Auburn at Auburn and top 20 WVU at home
2008 beat then top 20 Kansas at home
2009 beat then top 20 FSU on the road and top 25 WVU at home

The Big East has a BCS tie in because it used to have Va Tech, Da U, and Boston College.
