Great win for the team. We could not miss! 76% on three point shots. Amazing. 63% overall. Also, our bench played lights out tonight. Kelvin (19), Heramb(11), and Green (16) came in off the bench to score in double figures. Great depth.

KENNESAW, Ga. – In a night filled with record shattering performances, Kennesaw State connected on a school-best 19 three-pointers, including making 13-of-15 long range shots in the first half as the Owls defeated Lipscomb, 97-91, at the KSU Convocation Center.
“This was a good win for us over a good team,” said Kennesaw State head coach Tony Ingle. “I am very proud of how we played tonight and the effort we had. We applied pressure on offense, played good defense and found a way to win.”
The Owls (4-4, 1-1 A-Sun) were sizzling in the early goings as they hit their first eight 3-pointers en route to their first Atlantic Sun Conference win of the season. The Black and Gold built a 37-29 lead after Kelvin McConnell hit the first of his four, first half, three-pointers.
“We did a really good job of sharing the ball tonight,” said McConnell, who was 5-for-5 from beyond the arc in the game. “It wasn’t just me, we did a good job sharing the ball and everyone shot the ball well.”
The three-point barrage started with a Spencer Dixon three on the Owls first possession for a 3-2 lead, Kurtis Woods followed with a string of four straight long-range baskets in a little over two minutes, the later breaking a 14-14 tie and giving the Owls the lead they would carry the rest of the game.
“We knew they would play zone at times and we did a good job making our shots,” said Woods. “I just kind of felt it tonight and coach told me to shoot with confidence, so I did.”
In a game of wild swings, the Owls three times built double-digit leads in the first half, but the Bisons would answer back with a rally of their own. The Black and Gold eventually built a 13-point halftime lead and withstood a pair of Lipscomb runs as they connected on 76 percent shooting from the field.
In the second half, the Owls led throughout and held a 72-64 lead with 10:08 left in the game. The Bisons made a brief, 5-0, run to trim the lead to three points. However, LaDaris Green hit a jumper to push the lead back to five points at 74-69 and ignited a 6-0 run that put KSU up by nine points with 6:38 left.
“With everyone shooting well and our offense clicking, it made our defense better,” added Woods. “It increased our confidence on both ends of the court and we played more together and with more intensity on the defensive end.”
Lipscomb would climb to within four points with 2:02 left before McConnell slammed the door in fitting fashion with a three-pointer as the Owls would keep the Bisons at arms length the rest of the game.
“We worked on the zone getting ready for tonight and our guys came ready to play,” added Coach Ingle. “We were working hard and we played a great game.”
Kennesaw State set a plethora of Division I era records in the win, establishing new marks for points (97), 3-pointers (19), 3-point percentage (76.0%), field goal percentage (63.6%) and the 30 assists eclipsed the record of 25 tied against Western Illinois last season.
With a break for finals this week, the Owls will be back in action on Sunday, Dec. 13 when they play the Maine Black Bears in Orono, Maine at 1 p.m.
