Congrats Huskies!
For finishing 2nd in the MAC West when everybody thought you'd finish 5th.

Exceeding expectations.

Are you kidding? Seriously? Pre season MAC polls have about 3 dudes who know the MAC picking...maybe.

RE: Congrats Huskies!
Should NIU receive a bowl bid and win - Huskies wiil have exceeded expectations.

If no bid - Huskies met generally anticipated preseason expectations but got there in unconventional ways beating Purdue and WMU but losing to UT & Idaho.

Be appreciative we did not walk nor play in the cleats of BSU or WMU or LaTek.Those programs went in a direction opposite of NIU.

RE: Congrats Huskies!
I think they ended up being about what most of us expected, or at least about what I expected anyways. The only real surprises in the MAC in my opinion were how good Temple was (and that's relative since they didn't win the MAC East) and how bad Western Michigan was.

Pretty sure I said 7-5.

We just took an odd route to it.

I think I said 8-4. Looking at the competition, 10-2 should have been the record.

I agree... Should have beaten Idaho, Toledo, and Ohio and that would have locked us in for a bowl game.

Should have beated Idaho and Toledo? Yes. Ohio, don't think I'd agree with that.

What? Because I don't think we should pat anyone on the back for a 7-5 season when it's CLEAR on the field we should have done better?

Please. Just cause some idiots had NO IDEA about us doesn't mean our team played great. Try to be real for 5 minutes.

RE: Congrats Huskies!
NIU exceeded expectations by beating Purdue, beating Western Illinois convincingly.(rarely occurs)
Beating Western Michigan convincingly.(broke a 4 game losing streak)
Losing to Wisconsin by only 8 points.
To a vastly improved Idaho team by only 3 points despite being dominated by them.
For finishing ahead of Western Michigan and Toledo.
By improving on last years record despite injuries.
For improving on both defense and offense.
For never quiting.

Our special teams also failed to reach expectations by losing to a 5-7 Toledo squad by a single point, having 2 blocked kicks in 1 game and by giving up 2 quick TD against an Ohio squad whom we dominated stats wise.

The loss to Ohio in the 4th q really hurt, considering we have mainly performed very well in that quarter this year.
We were no match for CMU who dominated us and defeated us by more points than our loses to Wisconsin, Idaho and Toledo combined. It was perhaps luck that they did not defeate us by 3 TD's.

Finally a well deserved minor Bowl invite will help tune NIU for next year where we should win the MAC West and maybe the MAC, barring no serious injuries.

For a team that was supposed to finish in fifth place, NIU exceeded expectations, again. The Huskies made some mistakes, and some mistakes cost them some close games, but a fifth place team would not have even had the chance to win those games.

While the Huskies may not even be able to hang a co-champ banner on this season, they have set the bar a little higher, and they will surely not be picked to finish in fifth next year.

Being satisfied because we performed better than some "experts" predicted we would doesn't make much sense to me. It goes right along with the ridiculous nature of basing our approval of Kill's coaching on his ability to get us to bowl games.

This team may have hit expectations from 5 months ago but expectations should be changing all the time.
