I wish it was, however that is how it seems to work.
Does anybody on this board believe we can get and retain top coaches and assistants without top pay?

Kill is getting ~$350k/year. Butch Jones (CMU) is getting ~$300k. You obviously have no idea what the head coaches in the MAC make. Here I found this for you...

Apparently BGSU and CMU should have gone 5-7. Our coaching staff receives average salaries by MAC standards.

People had doubts regarding Big Ben in the NFL.

Thank-you for the great link.
Two points.
Five coaches receive a higher salary than Coach Kill.
Secondly does the salary include free housing and other perks?

Many posters on this board expect nothing less than a top 3 MAC program.
If we were amongst the top 3 salary providers, that would mirror those expectations.

As long as enough people associate positiveness with NIU football they will remain fans. Negativity only breads more negativity and might not be the best way to express one's support for NIU football.

I still don't get the hype. Of the 32 starters I think he's buried in the middle of the pack. IMO Hiller is the better prospect than LeFevour.

Kill is NOT recruiting to the level of the rest of the teams we need to compete with. If there was any doubt, look at the level of talented freshman on CMU and how dominating that program was today. We came into this year seriously under recruited on the o line....we all saw that....now we only have one verbal? Seriously. (Before youmake the argument that numbers dont mean crap at this point, ask yourself....would you rather be the guy with a multitude of talented verbals at this point or be the guy with one)

I loved the kill hire when it happened but then I liked the World Football League and thought the USFL would revolutionize the NFL....I can admitt when i am wrong. This team won seven games DESPITE what was going on on the sidelines and in the lockerroom. I agree with NIJ, we are aiming at being pathetically average and I have higher aspirations for this program.

I agree. We might have serious problems with recruiting.
I am amaized how we have got 7 wins and nearly 9 with such talent.

Who are the top recruiters and what are they making?

Then you have Ron Zook and Charlie Weiss who recruit incredibly well, but under-perform consistently.

It is far too early to worry about recruiting, Kill is just starting at NIU. The only legitimate thing there is to worry about right now is Kill's in-game coaching. There is no way around the fact it has been very scary at times.

the argument you are making is just ridiculous. you said it yourself...if coaching salary is in direct correlation to wins, then why didn't Charlie Weis go 12-0 this year? i'm not even going to bother explaining how stupid that idea is.

How can it be too early to worry about recruiting....I am worried about this year but if you take that off the table, we recruited poorly last year and the year before. Its certainly not too early to worry about the classes of 2007 and 2008

LeFevour looked OK vs. Michigan State. I believe he had 340 yds and had the offense in control all day.

As for AZ and BC, both of those teams will be in Bowls this season, and add in the fact that both were on the road, one 3 time zones out, and vs. BC, LeFevour was playing with a migraine. I think I would be willing to cut him some slack.

Bottom line, LeFevour has been one of the most productive QBs in college football history. If he never plays a down in the NFL, he has had a pretty nice athletic career, way better than most of us on football message boards.

I agree he has had a very nice career. The announcers doing the game also mentioned that the jury is out based on playing against big programs. Whether these teams are bowl bound or not doesn't matter. Playing against the NIU secondary is like stealing candy from a baby.

Bottom line the level of talent on this football team has deteriorated the last three years. And Jerry Kill has absolute blindspots when it comes to gameday coaching.

If the standard becomes getting to 6-6 every season then we are going to see Huskie Stadium attendance in the 10,000 - 13,000 range on average. And we are also going to see the Comcast TV deal dry up as well.

Why Jerry Kill was given a contract extension so soon in his administration is a mystery I cannot understand. Now we are stuck with Kill. He's not a bad guy, but he is also not the right guy to lead NIU football to the upper reaches of the MAC every year.

Does anyone know "WHO"? actually decided to extend his contract??? & did you ever think that person has something to gain with Kill as head coach????? Just wondering. . . . .
