how though? you have macc winner, then loser, then ohio...how do we fall in as a possible 3rd spot?

Agreed, there are only 3 MAC Bowls and right now, we have very little changes of those.
4, the MAC will send a team to the Eagle Bank Bowl.

Only if Army losses will someone send a team to the Eagle Bank Bowl. And we won't know if Army losses until December 12th which is a week after all the other bowl bids are handed out. If I am NIU, I don't wait and hope Army losses.

The other bowls certainly aren't going to wait to see what happens with Army. I think the Eagle Bank may be getting the absolute last team available. If I am a at-large team and there are other bowls open plus the Eagle Bank Bowl, I take the other bowls because I don't want to risk being shut out by Army.
CUSA will fill the spot if Army is not available. The MAC has secured the other bid because the ACC will not have enough eligible teams.

That is what I originally thought too but all the CUSA people kept telling us, they would be replacing the ACC and then the article confirming it. Army & Navy playing on the 12th really screws things up.

Well then CUSA people are wrong. The game is ACC vs. Army/CUSA. The ACC can't fill it. The MAC will likely replace the ACC team, but it's not guaranteed. There is no formal relationship with the MAC and the EagleBank Bowl this year. It might not matter if Army beats Navy. It's just like Army is in CUSA and would automatically get that bid. CUSA won't have more than 5 7+ win teams unless SMU and Marshall both win this week, so if a CUSA team gets "bumped" from the EagleBank because of Army winning, that CUSA team (with 6 wins) isn't going bowling.

Long story short, the only way it creates a problem for us is if Army AND SMU AND Marshall all win. That could create Army vs. CUSA in the EagleBank.

69 are eligible, not 70. You show 9 for the Big 12. Kansas State is not eligible. They are 6-6 but have more than 1 win against 1AA.

The ironic part is that they would have gone to the Big 12 championship with a chance for a BCS bowl had they beaten Nebraska last week.

MD, will you not post for all of next year if NIU doesn't get a bowl bid?

Basically no one really has a clear handle TODAY on the likely outcome for NIU and how much more attractive would NIU be to those bowl committees having wiggle room , especially after an upset vs CMU and 8th win.

Understanding the bowl selection process when NOT CAST IN CONTRACTUAL CEMENT is like watching bratwurst sausage being processed in a packing plant.

Potential for ticket sales + fan travel base + politics + attractive game matchups = bid.

Marshall and SMU both play 3-8 teams this week. So there is a decent chance both will finish 7-5, giving C-USA six teams with seven or more wins.

Yes. But that doesn't matter unless Army beats Navy too.

In games that matter to us today:

Wyoming 14, Colorado State 13 - 4th quarter - not good
Bowling Green 24, Toledo 17 - 4th quarter - not good but BG was up 24-0 early and Toledo has dominated statistically

CSU driving. 04-rock

dangnabbit.

WYO beat CSU 17-16

oh foolish 02,
8 wins is better than seven - now that BGSU also will likely have seven wins.

And BG has now beat Toledo. Looks to me like Humanitarian (MWC) and Eagle Bank (ACC) need 7-5 at-larges to fill the slot. That assumes TCU beats New Mexico and goes to a BCS Bowl. But upsets are in the air - A&M nearly knocked off #3 Texas last night and Auburn is up on #2 Alabama in 4Q.

Common you have to be a realist sometimes! I won't mention the name of the bowl, but you do remember the game when we played a certain team from texas in San Diego and got lit up! I'd rather have the team sit at home than have that happen again!

A bowl committee could care less if NIU has 8 wins to BGSU's 7, that is the least important factor in a selection.

Madd for at large bids outside of conference ties the committee must first choose 9 win teams that are available, than 8, than 7 and so on. They cannot choose a 7 over a 8.

I agree with your logic about wins though. Fan support, Notable victories, bowling history etc play a bigger role than just a record.

RE: 68 slots , 64 now bowl eligible....& others
With Wyoming winning today there are only three bowl slots open, with a possible 4th if Army loses to Navy.

Eligible teams to fill at-large slots with 7 or more wins are Middle Tennessee, BG, and NIU.

There are five teams that could win tomorrow to reach 7 wins and be eligible for an at-large bid. They are UCLA, Notre Dame, La-Lafayette, La-Monroe, and either SMU or Marshall (one of the two CUSA teams will fill the last CUSA slot, the other would be a 7 win at-large). All but SMU and Marshall are underdogs.

If there are upsets tomorrow that add more teams to the available field of 7+ win teams, there is a very real chance we'll be home for the bowl season. Middle Tennessee with 8-9 wins, is virtually a lock. UCLA and ND will definitely be chosen if they get their 7th win, and I don't think we have a better case for a bowl than BG, or an available 7-5 team from CUSA.

Why is BG's resume so much better than NIU's? Who have they beaten this year that is so impressive?
