Good read on the Gator Bowl selection
http://jacksonville.com/sports/college/f...ed_clemson

An inside look on how Clemson was chosen last year. But most interesting was that the Gator Bowl committee chairman was Brian Goin, Bob Goin's son.

I wonder if Brian is on the committee this year?

RE: Good read on the Gator Bowl selection
I think I read that last year, but it's definitely a good read. It makes me wonder, though. Let's assume we beat Illinois and then lose at Pitt. I know, hopefully that doesn't happen, but let's just pretend. WVU, meanwhile, either splits their last 2 (Pitt, Rutgers) or wins both to finish at either 9-3 or 8-4. Does the Gator Bowl take WVU over an 11-1 UC because of the very large WVU traveling fanbase? Could an 11-1 UC team end up in Charlotte, or worse??

Hopefully they win out and take care of it, but I like to think of all the possibilities so that I can think about our travel plans.

My take on that is if ND wins its last game, it's in the Gator. If ND loses, the loser of the Pitt v. UC game gets the Gator. That simple. WVU cannot go because they'd be two games behind both UC and Pitt, both with only one loss (at most) in conference.

Agreed about ND, although I'd be mildy shocked if they win at Stanford. Assuming ND loses, though, I wouldn't rule out WVU. Merit has very little or nothing to do with the bowl selection process. Did you read that article about last year's selection process? They were talking about and considering TV ratings and hotel occupancy. WVU being two games back wouldn't prevent the Gator Bowl from taking them.

Considering how his father was treated on the way out, I am not so sure that this will help UC. Could very well be to the contrary.

Correct. I was assuming Pitt beats WVU. If it does, the article said you can't pick a conference team that is MORE than one loss behind the one you don't want. So it won't matter how much they want WVU in that case.

D'OH! I missed that part the first time I read it! That makes sense and is a bit of relief in the unlikely event that the 'Cats lose to the 'Stache on the 5th. :)

UC gave Goin a second chance after he was fired from FSU and he is in UC's Athletic Hall of Fame.
