RE: Basketball recruiting question
Here's an interesting thought. Jake Anderson was just released from NIU. He has one year of eligibility left and since he was released he doesn't have to sit out a year. He's scored in double figures every year at NIU and is a decent outside shooter. His 3pt numbers were down this last year but he shot over 37% his sophomore year. I don't know if another guard is what Kent is looking for but it would add a lot of experience and someone who knows the MAC already.

RE: Basketball recruiting question
So that just leaves Clay right?

If anyone is interested Trey Zieglar is supposed to announce his decision at 4:45 o ESPNU. It is believed he will be turning down the likes of Duke to player for his dad at Central Michigan.

RE: Basketball recruiting question
Perhaps Clay is one of the two or more players who will not "qualify". Knight is presumed to be one.

Porrini has a younger brother that is pretty good. He played at Canton Timken, after having been at North Canton Hoover and Massillon. He was recruited by D I programs, but is going to a JUCO in Wyoming because he is a non-qualifier.

Henniger is playing against some really good competition in the Ohio coaches All-Star game Sunday. Too bad it doesn't seem to be on TV.

RE: Basketball recruiting question
You might be right about Clay, Kent 76. I hope your wrong though he appears to be the only pure shooter we have coming in.

I'm pretty excited to see some of the battles Gaines and Ziegler have over the next 4 years. If they both live up to expectations that could be a Kool Singltary type match up.

RE: Basketball recruiting question
Glad the we can only play cmu once during the regular season. 26th ranked player in the nation to a MAC school? Unthinkable

I agree. And, glad CMU plays everyone in the West twice and everyone else in the East once.

RE: Basketball recruiting question
Honestly, I would rather have CMU in the east. Playing everyone in the West twice makes a regular season championship much easier for them. Also, assuming they are one of the best teams in the Mac the next four years, playing everyone in the West twice will hurt their RPI making it harder for the Mac to improve as a whole.

#5 pg in the nation did the same thing as zeigler and is playing for his father at detroit. Should have hired julian sullinger as a coach...

RE: Basketball recruiting question
As of this moment Kent State has, to the best of my knowledge, 12 players on scholarship (13 is the limit):
Sherman
Greene
Holt
Grimsley
Pinckney
Manns
Porrini
Guyton
Henniger
Nealey
Gaines
Knight

Also in the mix are Robert Johnson (sat out last year w/o a scholarship), DeShaun Clay (a verbal so far), Brian Frank (walk-on who redshirted last season). Ford is also looking elsewhere.

As David Carducci memtioned elsewhere, a lot depends on who may leave or who may not qualify.

Ratings are well, overrated. What good is a superstar player if he has no supporting cast?

Wow do we have a lot of new faces next year! I don't remember being as satisfied with a recruiting class as I am with this one and I also think if there is a big test coming for Geno this would be it.

Minor point...I believe Brian Frank may have his tuition paid as the son of the Provost, so don't know if we'd use a scholarship on him.

Agree, there has been no mention of his being a scholarship player. David Carducci has stated on his blog that Johnson will be given a scholarship.

If we can get Frank as a bonus, that would be great! Maybe the kid can earn a scholly in a year or 2.

RE: Basketball recruiting question
He was on the team last year, but had to redshirt a year after transferring in from D III Wooster. Based on his stats, I wouldn't think he would be anything but a practice player.
