MUS' Barry Brunetti earns his Army stripes
Barry Brunetti become the 2nd WVU recruit picked to play in the Army All-American game this year, along with Petersburg, VA OT Quinton Spain. Another recruit, Varina, VA OT Marquis Wallace, was reported as chosen for the game back in November. But I've not been able to confirm that in recent reports. However, they are still filling out the roster for the east team, so I expect confirmation one way or the other fairly soon. As of 3 days ago Brunetti's name wasn't on the list...

The Mountaineers are still in the running for a couple of other players chosen to play in the game, with Florida recruit Matt Elam being a prime target for Doc Holliday. WVU has already gotten a committment from one of his friends, Palm Beach Gardens CB Robert Clark...

Excuse the lateness. This story is a couple of days old. Enjoy... 04-cheers

Barry Brunetti was selected to the 2010 Army All-American game football game.

Memphis University School senior quarterback Barry Brunetti was already a two-time TSSAA Mr. Football finalist. The 6-foot, 207-pound West Virginia commitment added another honor to his growing list of accolades Thursday, when he was named a U.S. Army All-American.

"It feels great. Another blessing from God. It's one of the biggest honors you can get as a high-school athlete," said Brunetti, one of 90 senior standouts nationwide selected to play in the Jan. 9 U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio. "This is all because of my teammates. Without them and the (offensive) line, this award isn't possible."

"I wouldn't be in this game without my coaches and teammates."

Rated the No. 3 dual-threat quarterback prospect nationally by Rivals.com, Brunetti will join Olive Branch High senior offensive tackles Shon Coleman and Damien Robinson on the East team.

Coleman and Robinson were named U.S. Army All-Americans on Monday.

Brunetti, whose Owls have won a state-best 24 straight contests entering tonight's Division 2-AA state semifinal game against visiting Nashville Father Ryan, has accounted for 2,321 yards and 33 touchdowns this season.

He has not thrown an interception this season in 198 pass attempts.

"He is truly a special player," MUS coach Bobby Alston said Thursday. "Other than us not messing him up, I'm not sure there's a whole lot we've done."

"I think his commitment to change his approach to school, that's huge, because it wasn't easy. It's still not easy. No one can take credit for that except him. That was a decision he had to make personally first, to change the way he looked at school."

The 2010 U.S. Army All-American Bowl will be televised live by NBC from the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Former participants include the Minnesota Vikings' Adrian Peterson, the New Orleans Saints' Reggie Bush and the Florida Gators' Tim Tebow.
