BE bb 35-0 but first defeat(s) will come today...
It's been a great early run so far for the conference bb teams with an incredible 35-0 run, but today there will be at least one loss, possibly as many as 4.

#24 SU plays #4 UNC - Unfortunately for the Orange, their bigs (Jackson and Onuaku) often come up short against better frontlines (UConn and Pitt being the prime examples last year). UNC's strength is their frontline. Best hope for victory will be if the Orange forces a lot of TOs and get easy transition hoops. Edge to UNC.

#6 Nova plays #21 Dayton - The Flyers can play with anyone. If the Wildcats play as poorly as they did against George Mason, they will lose. Still, I think Nova bounces back from an off night and takes this one.

USF vs. South Carolina at the Charleston Classic - The Bulls are showing some improvement but beating the Gamecocks in SC may be asking a bit much. Likely loss.

Providence @ Alabama - I really have no idea who will win this game. The Tide will be at home and Providence lost a lot from last season, but so far the Friars appear to be the better team of these two. Toss-up.

St. John's @ Brown - The Johnnies should take this one.

Seton Hall @ Cornell - The Pirates have the superior talent and win a close one.

Rutgers vs Drexel
DePaul vs Northern Iowa

Your guess is as good as mine.

Cheers,
Neil

North Carolina's big men don't weigh much. Perhaps the Orange big men can keep 'em away from the basket, so they don't have such success. I didn't think Ohio State would play them as close as they did. So Syracuse has a chance. Don't give up so easily, Neil...

I have a certain feeling the conference will be 43-0 after tonight's action.

UNC is not a solid #4. This team has some work to do. An issue will be how deep is Syracuse's bench because this game will be a workout. I watched UNC overpower Valparaiso but it seems like they were going over their backs and the sissies were letter them do it. We don't have any sissies on this Orange squad and Onuaku is a senior- he's not going to be pushed around by underclassmen. Just won't happen.

Frankly, this is a good looking Syr team playing a freshman UNC in NYC knowing that this is national television and scouts. SYR can make a statement as a team and boost a few individual stocks. I expect Syracuse to show. I expect this SYR team to win tonight.

I'll take that bet. 03-wink

(although you didn't actually say anything about a bet)
You're betting Syracuse loses? That doesn't sound like a Syracuse fan betting. What's wrong with you man?

Alabama 68
Providence 67

Four minutes left in the game. Come on Providence. Keep the Big East perfect.

Wow! I thought my Cuse would have a chance if they scored off TOs, which they did, but even in that scenario I thought it would be a nail-biter.

Totally dominating performance by the Orange over a TarHeels team that will be better in February and March than they are now.

As expected Nova, Seton Hall, and St. John's won.

Both my "your-guess-is-as-good-as-mine" games went to the BE squads - DePaul and Rutgers. So, so far tonight, the BE is 6-0.

The toss-up game between the Friars and the Tide is just that, with the Alabama holding a 72-71 lead with a little of 2 minutes to play at home.

The USF-South Carolina game is early, with the Bulls ahead. Hope they prove me wrong.

Cheers,
Neil

You know Cornell was favored to win that game, right? That was a great win for Seton Hall partly because they WEREN'T expected to win.

You know they weren't FAVORED by me since the Hall has the superior athletes and the better team. 03-wink

Cheers,
Neil

Providence falls to Alabama, so we're no longer perfect in OOC play. But if USF holds on, we'll only have one loss as a conference. That ain't too shabby...

Well, we weren't going undefeated OOC anyway. I think it's incredible that by the end of this day the league will be either 42-1 or at worse 41-2 OOC.

Cheers,
Neil

I knew we weren't going unbeaten OOC. But this is supposed to be a down year for the conference, according to all the pundits. I think it's hilarious to watch them backtrack and eat their words...

Not a bad showing. Providence and USF could have just as easily won those games. Oh well
