very nice win over an ACC team. Now if we can just get some fans in the Sun Dome, too.

I watched some of that game on SNY. Nice win Bulls. Dont worry about attendance. You start winning and the crowds will follow, just like fb.

Are you sure it was a nice win? afterall, we didn't beat them by 50, and its not like we are playing Duke or any 'real' ACC team......

Dude....there was a time in the late 80s-early 90s where students had to camp out to get tix at the SunDome. If you put a good product on the floor the place will fill up....again.

In the late 80s, USF was terrible (never won more than 8 games in 87/88/89) and drew flies. From 90-92, we had those exciting, winning, dobras/shahid/alexander/lewis teams, and we drew a lot better.

But never close to routinely "filling up" the place, and that was with students getting in by just flashing their ID card at the gate.

We've been dead-last in the Big East in attendance for 3 or so years running. That has to change. I don't see why that is a controversial statement. So many around here are just ultra-***** sensitive about anything that isn't 100% rah-rah cheer-cheer about their school or the conference.

Florida is NOT a basketball state and if you knew anything about our state you would realize that USF will not sell out routinelly for basketball anytime soon. But we can be a 7k avg one.

Getting 7k average would put USF somewhere between 12th and 14th in the Big East and 68th and 78th in the nation. That wouldn't be too bad IMO.

RE: Bulls 66 Virginia 49
I was and undergraduate during the late late-80s and early 90s and the SunDome frequently had crowds over 7K. USF had some real nice teams back then and were fun to watch. Students who wanted lower level tickets had to camp out of the box office the morning before games to get blocks of seats. I know this for a fact b/c my fraternity won the spirit award during one of those years, and we had to compete with everybody else to get tickets. Unfortunately, USF couldn’t build on and sustain its success.

In terms of ultra sensitive…not really. Most of us are just tired of hypercritical fans that like to diminish every success. USF is building an athletic program for the long run, and along the way we have to ‘pay our dues’ and overcome challenges. I think some of you have no idea how quickly this program has developed. Taking football to the next level is driven by the University not the coach. Give Leavitt an competitive budget and facilities and then it would be fair to hold him accountable for “bad” winning seasons.

er, i lived in Tampa for 13 years and visit regularly (will be there next week for thanksgiving). 7k would be a big improvement over now, no doubt about it, but we should be able to do better than that being a part of the Big East.

and Im sure Miami and FSU would say the same being in ACC. If you lived in tampa for 13 years then you should know full well that our state is football first, second and third, basketball might be fourth.

I read somewhere about the USF/UCF basketball game being a couple days before the St. Pete bowl. If they end up playing in that bowl, it could be a spring break week/weekend of festivities in the bay area. I know you guys don't like doing anything with UCF but that atmosphere for 3-5 days could be amazing. Kind of like a Gucci Mane song. "watchin seven big booty broads shakin Spring break 50 thousand white girls shake it. Some dancing naked but everyone wasted"

b-ball is definitely behind football in florida, but that's no excuse for our paltry attendance. We can, and must, do much better.

You're gradually building a hoops program down there. Off to a good start with a win over an ACC team and you have a preseason all-conference player to boot. USF basketball is on the way up and that'll eventually put more fannies in the seats.

I sure hope so.

Any reasonable tracking of our progress since the early 1980s would show a steady upward slope during the early to mid 80s (NIT level), a big plunge in the late 80s as the Lee Rose era collapsed and Bobby Paschal took over, an even larger upward spike in the early 90s (NCAA level), a sharp dropoff in the mid-90s as the Paschal regime collapsed, a steady movement upwards under Seth Greenburg until about 2002 (back to NIT level), and since then a plunge under Robert McCollum and ... we haven't recovered from that yet. Overall, not much has been achieved in all that time.

I love seeing the Bulls beat up on an ACC opponent. The Big East is now 29-0 to open the year after tonight. The Big 12 is the only other remaining unbeaten league.

But USF is in the Big East now. And you have 1-A football money.

Yes, and so far, what it's added up to is .. doormat status in the Big East.
