FIU gets first really big payoff from Isiah hiring
But there’s one signee today that sticks out just like Tyshawn Taylor’s sore, swollen thumb.

Dominique Ferguson, Scout.com’s 36th-ranked player in the country, sent in his letter-of-intent to Florida International.

``He’s definitely an impact player,” FIU coach Isiah Thomas told FOXSports.com. ``He’s got the potential to play at the next level.”

``It’s big to our team in that it’ll help us attract other players,” he added.

Ferguson’s marriage to FIU is the only one in Scout.com’s Top 75 in which a player will attend a legitimate mid-major program.

Many questioned whether Ferguson would go through with his pledge and end up signing with FIU since he was pursued by numerous high-major programs.

``I was hoping to attract the best players in the country,” Thomas said. ``The goal for us is to build a Top 25 program and in order to do that, you’ve got to get the best players.”

``We aimed for the stars,” he added. ``I think we aimed high and we got one.”
