Hypothetical - What if rim were lower???
Let's say the rim were 9ft officially? what do you think the game would be like? What if it were 11ft instead of 10ft?

Personally, i think that if the rim were 9ft you'd see a lot more younger, faster and more skilled players in the NBA and college level. It would be more about speed.

If the rim were 11ft, you'd see taller players, obviously, but less skilled and with less speed. That's my opinion anyway based on numbers of quality players out there that frankly can't cut it because college and NBA teams think they are too small. There are the rare exceptions though like Joe Jackson, Lawson, Webb, etc.

What do you think?

RE: Hypothetical - What if rim were lower???
hmm, interesting hypothetical. While this has probably been discussed thousands of times, I have never thought about the repercussions of a different height. I would really like to see how a 9 ft. NBA would look like. I think the speed would be incredible and it would be a more "streetball" type game. Whereas with an 11 ft. goal the Big Ten game would thrive and basketball would be relegated to the final anecdote on Sportscenter (kind of like how they show a soccer highlight from the two most popular teams near the end of every show).

I would like to see the NBA play the preseason on a 9 foot goal.

A 9ft rim would be pretty brutal when guys hit their heads on the rim and backboard. Guys would be jumping all over each other going for rebounds, blocks, and dunks since almost everyone can play well over the rim.

An 11 foot rim might make a lot of players learn and focus on how to shoot better and probably produce less highlight dunks.

your argument regarding the rim being 9ft is exactly why most quality NBA or college level players would be several inches shorter than today. But I argue that there are players today that have the problem of hitting their heads but seem to be fine.

I think the rim at 11ft would eliminate the NBA "linebacker" mentality that is persistent today. Tons of great great great players out there who can score but aren't picked up because they dont fit THE mold.
