RE: Guard by committee
We definitely seem to have the personnel for the dribble drive. Mike can finish down low and III and C can shoot lights out.

Plus Courtney and AGM can be the jack-of-all-trades guys to tie up the loose ends. If we can get this together, we can be very dangerous.

That's what I was thinking. When I hear Solo compared to Stevee Moore or Zach Wright or Nick Zachary, all of whom got crossways with the coaches because of poor decision-making while trying be point guards, I believe it's not valid. A good penetraing point guard makes the defense stop HIM FIRST, and THEN, IF they collapse to make shooting a bad decision, he, instead makes the good decision to pass it to the best option. If the defense doens't play good defense and doesn't collapse, he simply takes the rock low and scores it; if they collapse, but too late, he draws fouls. If he is a good finisher, he can be a terrific point guard and a terrific scorer at the same time. You don't have to be a 5-point-a-game typle guy to be a great point guard. I've been waiting for years to have someone who is both, and I hope Solo might be the guy.
From what I'm reading from the posts on the board and what Vint said on the air confirms that we maybe running some dribble drive. When Rose was playing for Memphis he would penetrate and score or get foul until someone was able to stop him then he would pass it to the open men when they finally try to lock him down. It look like Harding could not stop him so he kept calling his own number...that is not selfish but playing to the game plan. I guess we will find out if Solo is selfish if he is being shutdown and he doesn't pass the ball.

If you want to know how the Dribble Drive Offense works, you can go to Google, and Google it up. Wilapedia gives a very good explanation of it.
There are several sources. Very intersting concept. It uses one inside player who is normally stationed on the baseline on the opposite side of the lane. The other four players need to be able to handle the ball, dribble and shoot well. I think we could do it. Maybe that's what we've been working on in those closed practices.

RE: Guard by committee
What I saw Sunday had no resemblance of so-called dribble drive. That is a motion offense where the team spreads the court, kind of like the Princeton offense, but instead of cuts and back-door passes, the ball goes to the lane where it is either put in the hoop or dished to a perimeter player to do the same.
It looked to me that we were running set plays, where post players rotated high-low and perimeter guys were looking to make the inlet pass.
I think the dribble drive offense is very effective and we could certainly embrace it with our guys. But that didn't look like what we were trying to do.

What I saw in practice the couple of times I went was not the dribble drive. Now, closing practice and putting that in, maybe.....
I talked to Steve last night and asked about the closing of practice. Lets just say the reasons were something none of us came up with and they made sense.

So obviously it's something you don't wish to post. I hope this doesn't sound pompous because it's not meant to, and I hope it's not the reason, but if my being at practices had anything to do with closing the practices, I apologize to the coaches for any distraction I might have caused, and to any fan who was denied access. Anyway, now we're starting to receive information from Jeff on a regular basis, and the games are beginning, so we won't have to rely on the coaches for information. We can draw our own conclusions. It will be interesting to see if any great changes have been made in our offensive schemes. Sure wish the Ole Miss game was on TV. We'll just have to rely on Jeff and maybe the few who are able to attend.

It couldn't be that Doc. Your being at practices has already been suggested here as the possible reason practices were closed. Kerry said it was for a reason no one has suggested.

I guess Vint was just shooting the breeze when he made the comment on the air. That's not good for fans that can't be at the game. The color commentator is suppose tell it like it is.
