It will never be as catchy as Tiger High. The sad thing is now that the cheating scum bag is at Kentucky, Memphis basketball will be right there with the mighty SMU men's program, and it won't take long at all. The difference between MTSU and Memphis? MTSU got tired of whining and complaining about the University of Tennessee and carved out their own niche. Now they have a growing program, nice on campus facilities and some pretty nice wins in football. Memphis has Tunica, a closed down race track, and let us not forget the UT reject, Tommy West. Or better yet, Albert Means, the 200,000 dollar bust at Alabama. It's so freaking pathetic for Memphis, you guys can claim one win over Tennessee that you got 13 years ago, that the majority of UT fans barely remember, much less care about. It wasn't even that bozo Tommy West that won that game for you, Memphis fired that coach for a guy who had at one point ran Clemson straight into the ground. When are you guys going to learn to quit crying about UT and do something about your piss poor athletic dept so maybe one day Memphis and Tennessee could have a rivalry similar to Bama/Auburn, Clemson/South Carolina, Uga/Ga. Tech? I do like the Hillbilly High thing, and the comment about prisons in East Tennessee is hilarious given the fact that Memphis had a place called the Murder Mall. If all the people dealing smack, stealing and assaulting people were actually put in prison in Memphis, all that would be left is a volleyball with a bloody handprint on it named Wilson, and a few Fed Ex employees.
BTW, how's A.I. working out for the semi-pro team?

Memphis has been to 3 Final Fours...in 3 different decades...under 3 different coaches...

Memphis isn't about John Calipari...

it's about the Wilfongs...Larry Finch...Ronnie Robinson...Andre Turner...Keith Lee...Elliot Perry...Penny Hardaway...Rodney Carney...Chris Douglas-Roberts....Derrick Rose...Tyreke Evans...(and MANY more!)

you mock Tommy West for leading Memphis to 5 bowls in 6 season...ETSU can suck on that!

Memphis has an athletic budget of over 35 million...
Memphis plays in a conference with 6 bowl tie-ins...
Memphis plays in a conference with a lucrative TV deal...
Memphis plays in a conference that has helped us pull a 1 seed, 2 seed, 1 seed, 2 seed in b-ball...

Memphis has close ties to FedEx, Auto Zone, First Tennessee, and the Tunica Casino's

in other words...Memphis is 10x the program ETSU could ever HOPE to be!

Go Tigers!!!
Drew

An ETSU/UT fan talking smack. We don't have football in JC, so much like I have my whole life, including the three losing seasons that have happened in my lifetime I wear orange in the fall. Half of what I'm saying is talking smack, half of it is a question of why Memphis can't get its' act together? Three Final Fours in three decades? How many championships? What I think is funny is you guys talk about the hillbillies, and inbreds, etc... and you're next to literally the poorest state in the country and Arkansas. It's insane to think that Memphis brags about FedEx, while up here there's better music, less crime, much better scenery, better schools and a better life! Maybe I should have dispensed with the smack talk and just said, what's stopping Memphis from getting its' stuff together?

I must've missed the time that SMU had two five star commits and the #2 ranked recruiting class by Rivals.

Yes, because our new coach hasn't shown that he can recruit yet.

So Hillbilly High has its "stuff" together? You run your mouth because you beat a basketball school in football but Hillbilly High just can't beat those pesky Alabamas,Floridas,Auburns,LSUs, or even UCLAs of the world on any kind of consistant basis. I guess you still consider yourself a football school but that's laughable considering you haven't been to a BCS bowl since that fluke season in 98 or won any conference championships, you know things that make a school a legit football school.
Hillbilly High has no basketball tradition unless you count the women and across the country most people couldn't care less about womens' basketball.Your men's team has only a couple of trips to the Sweet 16 in their history while Memphis has been 12 times to the Sweet 16, 6 Elite 8s, 3 Final 4s, and 2 National Championship games, plus an NIT National Championship.Josh Pastner has already outrecruiting Minnie Pearl and he hasn't coached a real game yet.
Less crime in east Tennessee? Most backwoods hole in the wall towns with smaller population bases have less crime than major metropolitan areas do. So what? We would rather live near civilization than a place that was the inspiration for the movie "Deliverance". Of course you have big crowds for football games, what else is there to do up there in the hills of east Tennessee?
