RE: Houston restaurant suggestions?

I remember being a bit surprised at the brief Houston vs. Austin angle of this thread. As far as renowned violinists, Perlman himself has played in Austin since then, as have Joshua Bell, Midori, Cho-Liang Lin, Gil Shaham, Arabella Steinbacher, and Anne Akiko Meyers. There are reasons to leave Austin, but this is not one of them.
In the rock scene I have seen both of the bands I really wanted to see but doubted I could (Sparks and Neutral Milk Hotel).
:)
Congrats, belatedly! :)
I saw Itzhak Perlman and Joshua Bell in Orlando. I was really impressed by Joshua Bell. I had excellent seats--I could see individual hairs on his bow--and his performance was electric. He proved to be very friendly when signing autographs later.

Is the restaurant for lunch or dinner, and for clients or just for your friend?
If it is just for your friend, Pho Binh Trailer is near the intersection of 45 and Beltway 8 and serves some of, if not the best, pho in the city with a ton of good vietnamese.
Unfortunately, other than that, I don't know of any places that qualify that are less than 15 minutes from Hobby. There are plenty of places in East Downtown, which is a 20ish minute drive, but I find that part of Houston is almost like a food dead zone, IMO.
It's not a client dinner. He's just not been to Houston before and thought he'd try to make the most of a very quick trip. Thanks for the feedback!
Then if he is willing to go to a dingy trailer in that part of town for some very authentic Vietnamese food, he should go there. I can't remember if it is cash only, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was. Go with the rare beef, it's great.

Yeah, Bell is great. Perlman is a legend, but my sense is that the time to see him was the '70s.
