Great article on Derek Fisher in new issue of
Sports Illustrated. Do you realize that at age 35, he started all 82 games for the Lakers last year. Amazing. He's the perfect example of a young man who just outworks people. Great credit to our program. We need to find more like him, if they even exist.

Without a doubt he's very knowledgable about the game, and would make a good coach if he is interested in doing so. I wouldn't mind him being the head coach of the Trojans some day. He's such a nice guy, and likable, I beleive he could bring in the new fans. Above all, I think he'd be what we hoped Sidney would be. Sid was a great player, but evidently he didn't have what it took to be a head coach.

I'm probably one of those in the minority, but I still believe that had Sidney stayed and coached for a number of seasons, he would have been a good coach. He brought in good talent his one year. Stan Blackmon and Laverne Smith were his recruits. Had he stayed, he could have brought in a veteran assistant to help with the discipline, etc., and given Sidney the time to adjust to coaching at the college level. But it didn't work out, and we'll never really know. Shame. He had the image as a hero in the state and could have brought big time publicity to the program. On the other hand, there is a possibility he might have gone 4-24 every season.
