Pg

Bozeman has a quick 1st step. He gives us the best pg we have had since I have been here. Foster is good too and we are set at pg

The real battle for playing time are at the wing and bigs

sg/sf/wing

There is a log jam of players here and someone that is only a little less of a player than the guys in front of him is going to watch the other kids.

Mouzy will just about have to start at the 2. I don't see anyone beating him out. The other spot, sf, is up in the air between Kelson, Alex and Cicic.

Kelson looks like he will be in the mix here. I really have never thought the kid showed enough speed to play the 3 at the D1 level but he looks a lot better this year. He can hit from the outside a little. He is no world beater but probably does enough stuff good to play.

Alex is a nice looking kid. He has a real d1 body for the 3. His arms are short. Yes, his arms are short. He shot the ball like he can hit but has not hit much of anything while I have watched him in drills and running the plays.

Cicic looks to slow to play d1 defense to me too but you can't really tell watching the drills and plays at this point. He is a shooter. Not like Mouzy but a kid that will have the green light when open.

Some where in here Ricky Davis falls in. He is listed at 6'2” but I think I am taller than he is (only slower, lol). I can't really tell anything about the kid so far, other than, he is probably pretty fast.

Bigs

Like the wings, there are 5 kids playing for minutes at 2 spots. Everyone is pretty close in talent. Smith will play because we have all seen that he is a gamer. He looks in shape, so give him 25 minutes. That leaves 55 minutes for 4 players. Those 4 players are close.

Burton does not look like anything should work for him but he can shoot the 12 footer. He is going to get some minutes and will have to produce to keep them because the new comers (Montrel land Marlon) are raw but can probably produce too.

Marlon is a big kid and can shoot the 3 or the 12 footer. I was shocked. The kid can shoot and the other team is really going to have to come out of the paint to cover him. If a combo with Smith would work, I could this set of players getting some minutes. Defense against quick bigs would be the issue.

Montrell is another JJ. He started late playing BB and is raw. He could probably grab 8 rebounds a game at this but will be pretty good as Joe Kline works.

Bails looks in shape. He can hit the mid range jumper and his playing time will come down to rebounding and defense. The kid can score. He is about the happiest person at practice. He just seems like he would be fun to hang out with. Seems to have a winner of a personality.

Jackson have got a 12 foot jumper this year and can finish around the rim. To me, he is the best 4 year talent we have recruited to date.

Joe Kline was nice enough to answer a question about playing in front or behind in the post. I thought they were telling our bigs to front from the 2nd hash mark up. Which looked like lob city over the top if the guard is not jammed by the defense. Well, that was not what they were coaching. We do a good job coaching fundamentals.

Very good report. I agree with you about our point guard situation, and III being the man at the two. However, and I could be wrong, I don't really see Kelson getting a lot of time at the three. Alex is definitely the man there. I don't know yet where Ricky Davison fits in, whether it's at the two or three, or even the point. You're right that he's around 6 foot or 6'1" at the most. He told me himself that he's 6'1", although he was listed on Rivals as 6'4" when he signed.

I think Nick will be worked in some at the three, but he's not ready defensively yet, but he's a smart player, a very good passer, and a good, but not great, shooter. I really think he's at least a year away from really contributing a lot.

Courtney will be fine at the four, with help from several others. Mike is definitely on schedule fror a great year at the four or five. Burton has a nice touch around the circle, but I think Marlon and Muntrelle might end up being more effective because they're probably better rebounders, and as you said, Marlon can shoot the ball. All in all, it should be a very interesting season.01-lauramac2

That's a good post. Now, I will know more about the players when the first game or scrimmage comes around.

That is saying something, taking Patterson and Graber into consideration. If you are right, that alone might indicate a better year than I had thought.

Kelson looks like he will be in the mix here.

That interests me. He has been sort of the forgotten man since he has been here. Hope he does well.

Courtney. To me, he is the best 4 year talent we have recruited to date.

Again, you have studied the program, and that is saying something. By his upperclass years, he may be the real deal.

Sounds like Bozeman may be the key to the season. A good point guard goes a long way in basketball. Your report makes me feel a little better about the upcoming season.
