The service academies pretty much have 3-4 different agreements already. Basically I figure there will be 1 or 2 bowls going defunct in 2010.

With more in 2011.

RE: If B10 opts out of motor city bowl
The service academies are set for the next few seasons. Army will go to the Armed Forces (still under negotiation), Emerald, Eagle Bank, and Poinsettia in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013. Navy will go to the Poinsettia, Eagle Bank, Emerald, and Armed Forces in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013.

The Emerald and Poinsettia deals are a hybrid with the WAC, which will go to those games twice apiece, in years where the service academies are not there. In other words, the WAC will play in the Emerald in 2010, Poinsettia in 2011 and 2012, and Emerald again in 2012. Very creative.

CUSA is supposed to do the same type of hybrid with the Armed Forces and Eagle Bank. They would go to the Eagle Bank in 2010 and 2013 and the Armed Forces in 2011 and 2012. Now you see why they were so eager to start the new Dallas Bowl with their presence there being halved.

If the SEC does not come through and evenly share the 7/8/9 spots between the Music City, Liberty, and Papa John's then the Big East needs to walk. Sticking with SEC #9 really means being stuck with SEC #10, which will never qualify, and we would see a steady diet of Sun Belt teams.

When you think about it like that, the Little Caesar's Bowl is within driving range for every Big East team except USF, and the foe would be a higher caliber MAC squad. I think it would be a no-brainer to send our #6 there if the SEC does not make sure we play them at least three seasons.

The Motor City Bowl could just die or the MAC could make it their bowl game and just look for an at-large team after all bowls pick. There is always a 6-6 team somewhere that gets left out.

One year it could be the Big 10, one year the SEC, one year the ACC, C-USA, Sun Belt, etc...

Which brings me to the other thought... The MAC could partner with the Sun Belt for the position. They could try to make it MAC #1 vs Sun Belt #1 like C-USA and MWC worked the Liberty Bowl for a few years.

Not sure if Papa John Schnatter would be to happy with this, therefore UL would probably have to decline kindly anytime we are offered the bowl.

I hope that if the Big Ten moves away, the Big East moves in. I'd really like to see this bowl survive.

The chief executive of the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl says he still hopes for the game to have a tie-in with the Big Ten.

George Perles (PER’-less) said Wednesday he expects to know by next week if the former Motor City Bowl will reach an agreement with a Big Ten or Big East team to play a Mid-American Conference school.

Big Ten spokesman Scott Chipman said the conference is still in talks with bowl officials in Detroit.

The bowl changed its name after Detroit-based Little Caesars stepped in as sponsor. The game is played at Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions.
