im just curious as to why you continually start such threads when you know how people are going to repsond to it? you insist on digging yourself deeper and deeper into that hole where no one around here respects anything you have to say...

you think you are standing up to a so-called mob mentality..in what way? by trying to create your own mob mentality that says people are not true tiger fans if they dont do a, b, or c?

thats all im tryin to figure out...

thank you stacie, i will attempt to explain or by addressing your elipsical statements (just a bad pun, no offense intended).
i have no intent in offending anyone when i start a thread like this one. non of our statements and non of the threads on this board exist in a vacuum. there have been a few posters on this board lately who have stated that they will not be attending any more games for one reason or another, but still claim to be loyal fans. my statement was just that i see their behaviour differently. i am usually not offended if someone has a different opinion than mine. if my tone seems condescending that is a fault that many of us can admit to, but it is not one to which i aspire.

imo opinion there is a mob mentality on this board. i believe coach west to be a very good football coach who has, is, and will continue to serve this team and this university well. there is mindset by some that he will not be, or hasnt been, isnt, or (in some extreme cases) never was the right coach. i am not trying to start a mob mentality by disagreeing with those who think that. it does seem to me that there is a mob who believe they are the only ones who have a right to an opinion or that if i or any one else disagrees with that opinion it is time to pile on.

i do believe that the vast majority (not necessarily a mob) on this board want the best for the tigers, even my most virulent attackers. what we disagree upon is what is best. i know that sometimes i become a lightning rod in the storm. i do wish more people agreed with my opinions, that is why i place them into the arena of public discourse.

p s i this case my offense was saying, "shame on you if you boycotted the game or hoped for a loss." then i went on to briefly explain why i thought so. i am uncomfortable but not surprised by the response by some people who responded, at this point i am used to discomfort.

So are many of us, thus the debate......

i admire coach west i do not idolize him. my criticism of him is positive imo he has more negative criticism on this board than he deserves. tommy west is the head coach of the university of memphis tigers and in that capacity he has many responsibilities. he is a consumate professional who maintains his dignity and remains above the fray. he is well aware of the "heat" he is under, and yet all i have heard him say about the subject is that we should continue to support the team. i, on the other hand, am just a fan who is willing to sacrifice some dignity to call out ideas that are not imo in the best interest of the football program.

i better let this go. HLT i probably about to ban for this attack on tiger fans.

Fair enough. I know you are passionate about the Tigers and West, just a suggesstion that West keeps it all above board, and it would serve us all well to do that. We all dont agree on a lot of things but are all humans and Tigers fans and think we should disagree with out it being resulting into meaningless diatribes. Ok I back to the Broncos and Pats....

I never"abandoned" the Tigers. I've "abandoned" the inept coaching.

It's simple. I went because I wanted to. It turned out to be a pretty good game. We won. I went home happy and satisfied, this time. This is Tiger football. You can never make people do anything they don't want to do, especially trying to make it civic duty to go. It just won't work.

Spot on. It's not an obligation, just like buying Grizzlies tickets is not a civic duty. You go because you want to go, or not. Each fan has to choose their own path.

i really do wish people would make more effort to parse what i write and put more effort into understanding what i write, before they respond to their own imagined meaning. i take care in my writing to be clear, please take care in your reading to understand. do not attribute to me things that i have not said.

I was thankful for getting a free ticket since someone wasn't going. And I got my pick of seats. I straddled the 50 yrd line the whole game with quick access to the men's room. So, yes it looks bad to have a near empty stadium, but boy it sure is convenient to those that are still going, IMO.

And may I add, I LOVE NIGHT GAMES!!!!! We rarely played day games when I was going as an undergrad; wished we would go back to having all night games until it gets too cold, like around NOV.

why would someone buy a ticket to watch that crap...there are free tickets everywhere...

i'll be sitting in the handicapped box the rest of the season, i want Tommy to see an empty stadium and KNOW he's lost the fan base...even if he get to 6 wins...which looks impossible at this point.

the happy clappers can just keep clappin' if they wish...

Go Tigers!!!

At halftime. Not many there obviously, but let's not try to make it look worse than it was.

If I was in my usual seat, I could have taken a less than full home side as well. Even from my in-laws seats, there were tons of open spaces down low on the home side. No one in their section minded us crashing the party. Mainly because they didn't show. By halftime sec. 107 was deserted.

I took the pic mostly to focus on the chair back seats on the visitors side. Those are season ticket holders despite being on that side. Some of which have been for a long long time. I guess it was just too cold for most to come. I consider them die-hards, maybe they aren't?

The visitor section is 116/115 ish. And UTEP had about 20+ fans for the game that I could tell (maybe more). All of which MOVED DOWN to the front row and closer to the goal line.

I was impressed with the students. Their numbers remained solid even after the homecoming court was announced at halftime.
