Models of Consistency
Kudos to two Broncos for their achievements to date:
Brandon West
Quote:No one in the history of the Mid-American Conference has ever racked up more all-purpose yards or kick return yardage than Western Michigan University’s senior running back.
This, after West tallied 237 all-purpose yards Saturday against Hofstra, shooting up the MAC’s all-time list from fifth to first with 6,207. He passed greats such as Northern Illinois’ Michael Turner (6,038) and Garrett Wolfe (5,983) and, lastly, Travis Prentice, who put up 6,111 yards at Miami-Ohio in the late 1990s.
West, who entered Saturday second in career kick return yards, passed Eastern Michigan’s Trumane Riley (2,541 yards from 2003-06) by netting 51 return yards to reach 2,549.
Despite having some fumbling issues lately, which are troubling, B West has been a model of consistency, especially in setting up our offense in good field position with his kick returns. It doesn't hurt that he has basically been a starter for four years - you don't set these kinds of records otherwise. Hoping he gets those ball security issues resolved, because after a great career at WMU, it would be sad to see folks remember him as anything other than a very good contributor and player. I'm expecting/hoping he'll bust a return for a TD this year. Hopefully, our O line will play their best Saturday, as we will need to be able to run the ball to beat NIU.
All-purpose Brandon West is MAC's all-time best
Austin Pritchard
Averaging 10 tackles per game this season, he is the glue for the D. Just picked up his 2nd MAC West DPOW award. I don't believe that he gets the kudos that he deserves, even if he was chosen as a 1st team All-MAC last year.
Austin Pritchard is MAC West Player of the Week for second time

RE: Models of Consistency
Pritchard's stats and leadership speak for themselves, but West is a real underrated player. When he first came to WMU, I had my doubts. He didn't seem to read the field that well and had some ball control issues. But, he became one great football player and I think one of Coach Cubit's best success stories.

RE: Models of Consistency
He's a good running back, not one of the greatest in the league, but certainly in the top 3 or 4 each year. The fact that, due to his longevity as a starter that he's on a pace to end up the 3rd all time WMU rusher (barring injury) behind Robert Sanford and Jerome Persell says that he has been very productive, even if he wasn't as electrifying a runner as either of them. Some very good company, should he attain it. I agree that he has been underrated.
