I'm not a smack talker and rarely post anything negative about an individual poster, fan, coach or player; but in this case, you guys are arguing with someone that many rational Memphis fans have on "ignore." Additionally, this poster recently returned from an extended banning from the Memphis board. The ignore feature is your friend in some cases.

IMHO the credibility of a poster can be pretty accurately judged by the % of his posts that end up on a smack board. I believe that if you counted this poster would rank pretty high in that category.

The bottom line to all of this BCS conference "talk" is that if it works out for us....great; it's something that any school in the conference would like to do. If it doesn't, CUSA has been a good home for us these past 11 years and will be in the future. It's got good schools, competitive athletics and good fans to banter back and forth with. I really like our relationship with all of the eastern members and I'm discovering more reasons why the western members and their fans are both high quality.

I'm going to avoid the larger pissing match, and just reply to this post. I think there were a lot more coaches that got raises because Memphis might talk to them than we actually talked to. By all credible accounts, we didn't express interest in as many coaches as was reported.

The "On Campus Stadium Now" stuff is more to shift the priorities of the university, especially the president and AD, who appear disinterested in a university-owned stadium on campus. The university seems rather content with renting the Liberty Bowl, even though a large portion of the fan base is not. Basically, there is no campaign for a stadium because there is no desire from the administration to make it happen.

OK, a couple of comments regarding the thread as a whole. I would suspect that any school WANTS to move to a BCS conference...in fact if your school didn't, you should be disappointed. Memphis is just being rather public with its overtures, and aggressive on the matter as a whole...but so has UCF and ECU at various points in time. Memphis is basically (IMO) using upgraded facilities, a strong basketball program, and a relationship with the LB as a bright shiny thing in the left hand to distract attention from the sorry state of the football program in the right hand...where changes will be made in due time.

The other thing to remember is that this whole thread was started by a Huntington writer who famously claimed it was a "done deal" that Marshall was moving football only to C-USA and sending the rest of their sports to the Horizon League. His most recent "done deal" was this preseason when he wrote that Marshall wouldn't wear green helmets any more. They've worn them every game so far. He also recently wrote a column that claimed defense couldn't win games in C-USA even though the current C-USA Champions won the league with a strong defense and an offense that couldn't score a lick.

Betting against him is a strong play. So if you want to earn some cash, here are his predictions just from this week:

1. Memphis will never move to the Big East.
2. Marshall will soon announce a home and home football series with Louisville.
3. Chad Pennington's career is over.

I'd bet against all three of those.

I returned from being banned because at least two different moderators and many different posters lobbied to bring me back. Turns out that it took some people three years to realize what I realized long ago--Tommy West is a lousy coach and that he needed to go.

According to reports on the MemphisTigers.org board, Tommy West was told he will be allowed to finish out the season, but that he is done at the end of it. They have been contacting new coaching candidates already, and hope to have one signed by the end of the season.

The problem when you put someone on ignore is that when someown "qoutes" them, their comments are visible all over again, Otherwise, "ignore" is like your personal banning process. There is a long history of this poster "not playing well with others", so just let comments flow through

Regardless of what happens, and at this point I am a bit skeptical, lets my Memphis friends, not forget about the banner the a-hole in Louisville flew over the stadium during our last C-USA game with them. Lets have more class than that. Right now my school is in C-USA. I aspire for more and want Memphis in the BE for more reasons than one, but I will never have dismay for any of my current C-USA brothers.

Spotlight on a popular punching bag around these parts; the Mountain West Conference. They took a risk and told ESPN to shove it. We laugh at their many media mishaps, but I totally understand why they did it--they wanted their success their way, just as the power conferences demand. I tend to think that's the same reason they chose to make noise about the BCS this past summer as a conference. Unified. Not one pitted against the other, even though there's probably some of that going on unpublicized. But overall, I've got nothing but respect for them, because they've actually backed their claims up on the football field.

Everyone's thinking that it will be the 'defection domino effect' like last time where everyone is looking out for their individual interests. They're probably right, but for the time being the MWC has shown there is another way to make your voice heard.

Not exactly. I would much rather see the BCS dismantled entirely instead of remaining in place. Since billions of dollars won't let that happen, I want C-USA as a whole to get a much fairer shake in said system instead of UAB looking to uproot the cross-campus relationships it has built over the years. This fan, despite his acerbic smack applied individually, really favors the other members of C-USA collectively. There is literally no better conference fit for UAB than C-USA as it is constructed now, and that's including yearly trips to Huntington and El Paso.

When C-USA grows, UAB has usually done the same. If going to the Big East or some new FBS conference turns the Blazer program into a well-paid doormat like Vandy and Baylor in football, or an also ran like DePaul basketball--I say screw it. I'd rather have fun in my souped up Honda Civic instead of settling for a crapped out Acura with flat tires.

Laugh if you want, but the big money and media pub should be coming to C-USA, and the conference should be doing more as a whole to get it for everyone.
