At one point Virginia was absolutely blasting Southern Miss. I check back on the game and Southern Miss is winning. What a collapse.

Maybe Louisville should hire Al Groh?

Hattiesburg, Mississippi is a tough place to win a football game. I'll wager some of you would be surprised to know that Memphis has beaten Southern Miss in 4 of the last 5 games.

And Cav-man can't stay on his horse. This has been a bad season all around for Virginia...

UVA has not shot at a good basketball or good football program with VT in the ACC. They really do not care about their athletic programs, really they do not care.

That's a stretch. Have you seen John Paul Jones Arena? They obviously care. They just have made the mistake of giving Groh extensions after good years (2005, 2007) that were horrible moves in retrospect. It's all about coaching with them, because they recruit well.

Talk to any UVA fan and bring up athletics, their first response will more than likely be, "our academics are better, we are Mr. Jefferson's University" or "who cares." I know two UVA grads that did not know that the Cavs played Southern Miss on Saturday. Around here, VT gets maybe 60% of football coverage, Maryland gets 30%, and the last 10% includes UVA which is thrown in with Navy, G-Town, Penn State, WVU, ECU, Catholic U, JMU, Howard U, Bowie State, and etc. Check out the Post, the Richmond Times Dispatch, or the VA Pilot (Tidewater) and there is little to no mention of UVA football or basketball.

Anecdotal evidence? Really? Because you talk to a couple of UVA fans you're able to making sweeping generalizations about their entire athletic department? Wow. If they "do not care" then why did they build John Paul Jones Arena? Why did they hire Tony Bennett to coach the basketball team? Why did they spend money on upgrades to Scott Stadium (new scoreboard, etc.) this year? VT has clearly surpassed them in the state of Virginia but to say that UVA does not care is silly.

They build JPJ because University Hall was a complete dump. That place did not have any boxes and etc...things that can bring in money. Also, JPJ has brought in more big concerts such as Jay-Z to Hooville.
They hired TB because they have sucked in basketball since Jeff Jones was shown the door. UVA has become the blackhole for good coaches, just look at the past few years.
The old video board at Scott was dated and aged compared to the tech available now. The the early to mid-1990s, Scott was improved because it too was a dump that could not generate revenue for the athletic department.
That being said, I know many UVA grads that do not care about their athletic teams. If they win, they will gloat and be merry, but they always put their academic standing first.

a school is only as good as what u put into it and who teaches the courses.
u can have the best engineering curriculum in the world, but if the teachers can't teach it's useless.
i had many a bad teacher in my day at central conn.
a lot of times these ivy league schools offer tons of tuturing and big scaling.
ie a chemistry final, the highest score was 80 which was an A.
70 A-etc.........

Sure, that's how UVA grads are. But to draw a correlation between UVA fans you talk to and how UVA handles their athletic department doesn't make much sense.
