Tranghese is working for Memphis
http://memphisroar.com/2009/09/tranghese...r-the-bcs/

Former Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese has been hired by the University of Memphis as a consultant to assist the Tigers athletic program in its efforts to gain membership in a Bowl Championship Series conference.

“His role is to help us and advise us,” Johnson said. “He asked me: ‘What’s my charge?’ I said, ‘There are six BCS conferences. Just get us in one.’”

The first step is to put some serious money into your FB program and turn it around. They haven't looked all that great the last few years.

Fed Ex is probably willing to help Memphis, and UC might be smart to let Fed Ex know that UC would be happy to help Memphis get into the Big East ...........for a donation?

With Calapari gone, their BB will most likely fall off the map. Their football program is not at BE level, with no signs of improvement. What BCS would want them???

RE: Tranghese is working for Memphis
Memphis had a strong basketball tradition long before John Calapari ever stepped foot on campus. The probation will knock them down a couple notches, but joining a conference like the Big East would have them back up on their feet in time. Very, very strong and loyal fan base.

They should hire Fulmer or Tuberville. That would be a start.

The Big East needs to do its homework. They could do better than Memphis IMO.

That program is nothing but trouble with all the off-field issues and questions that constantly surround it.

Not to mention Memphis is far and away the most corrupt city in the country when it comes to high school football prospects being treated like they are a part of some sort of slave trade.

not sure if you've been following recruiting or not, but Pastner is doing just fine for himself down there. Memphis will continue to be a basketball power...

RE: Tranghese is working for Memphis
When considering Memphis, you also have to take into account that the Big East as we know it will not last forever (probably not even 10 years). The football schools will break from the basketball only schools, so the Big East will lose Georgetown, Villanova, St John's, etc (unless Nova can make the football jump to D1). When the Big East ends up adding basketball doormats like Central Florida and/or East Carolina for football, it would be nice to add on a school with a basketball tradition like Memphis. I know UC football is the local rage now, but any conference with the likes of Cincinnati, UConn, Syracuse, and Louisville will always be viewed and known as a basketball conference.

RE: Tranghese is working for Memphis
Well they do have a school known more for football. UK's a basketball school, but the SEC is a football conference.

The Big East isn't known as a football conference now, and I completely assure you, adding Memphis, Central Florida, or ECU won't change that.

You sold me...I'll take Penn St and Notre Dame. I wonder if Penn St could really be a possibility? No way on Notre Dame...Big 10 maybe...maybe.

Seems like Pas made a 2 for one deal, and got a local player to stay home. Let's see where he goes on the court, and in recruiting next year.
Not the same success in football IMO

Well I would think not as well, but Penn St is a name that's popped up before...granted only in internet gibberish, but that's really all the expansion talk we're privy to. It would make sense for them geographically. They may see an easier road for their football team while hoping to generate interest in their basketball program with the Big East. One can dream.

Go for Purdue. They're the second fiddle in-state Big11 team and they match up as far as money and program size goes with the Big East in football.
