If Pitt is there when the BCS rankings start being official, that's a good thing.

Bad thing is they throw out the lowest and highest computer ranking...

At least you hope that the overly biased human pollsters look at these other rankings and put in the BE teams that deserved to be ranked.

Not only does this poll rank Pitt #1, it's got Michigan ranked #17. That tells me more than I need...

Michigan is going to be pretty good this year. That's what RR does in his second year; he shows significant improvement.

Pretty good, and being ranked because you beat some other popular team that hadn't proven anything, but was in the poll, is ludicrous. That is why I think the ranking system - and all the bowls - should be scrapped in favor of a playoff. Make all the teams earn it - and not just given it because they have a lot of fans...

You do realize that the Big East is a beneficiary of this arrangement right? I love how some people on this board like to pretend it's "us against them" as if the Big East isn't part of the BCS and doesn't reap the benefits.

Computer polls don't ever make a lot of sense in the beginning. That poll has Louisiana-Lafayette at 19th and Florida at 35th. If you look around at the other computer polls, they all have glaring issues. Sagarin has USF as the highest ranked BigEast program right now at 33rd which I doubt anyone thinks is the case. In his poll, Ohio State is still #5 because all the computer knows is that they lost to the #1 team. Massey shows Oklahoma as #5 and BYU #10; but USC is #2 and Ohio State is #12.

It's only after they gather more data do they become more sane. Or as Sagarin puts it

Quote:For the first few weeks of the season, the starting ratings have weight
in the process, but once the teams are all CONNECTED, then
the starting ratings are no longer used and all teams are started equal

Anderson Sports, for example, doesn't even release a poll until after the 5th week. Peter Wolfe doesn't release his until October 18th. It'll all work itself out in the end.

You must be brain dead, MS. We're thrown the crumbs that the big boys want to leave us, and the only reason we have a BCS bid is because they haven't figured out how to take it from us without the entire nation crying foul - and the federal government stepping in to end the charade once and for all...

And you continue to spew your typical nonsense...keep looking for those black helicopters. The BCS bid was never in jeopardy. Does the Big East not receive BCS money? Facts are that WVU would have played in the national title game 2 years ago if the coach & team didn't choke. Louisville would have done the same 3 years ago if they didn't choke in Piscataway. South Florida was ranked #2 in the nation at one point. Do you have anything substantive other than conspiracy theories to back up that the Big East isn't one of the big boys?

The BCS bid was very much in doubt when WVU went into Atlanta to face Georgia. That was the first season without the 3 ACC defectors. The entire nation had already dismissed us, and most were talking about what it would be like after The BEast lost it's BCS bid...

Is your memory so short?

We beat Oklahoma State (6th ranked in coaches poll) @ OSU after their big Georgia win and we're still unranked in the coaches poll. Pretty awesome.

LOL. That was a great win for Houston. I knew Houstons offense was going to be pretty decent this season, but I didn't think they had a chance against OSU. Shows how much I know. Houston could be in the drivers seat towards a bcs bowl, if they can get thru Cusa undefeated. Right now BYU is getting all of the non bcs love for their win at Oklahoma. But it would be nice to see a team from Cusa get there. Congratulations on your bug win. 04-cheers
