St Gregory's went 2-30 / 1-21 last year, losing 19 of their last 20.

Geez.

I guess that's the team Jeff said UALR fans would not be "excited about".

Wow. What a start to the schedule. We could easily open 0-4 in our first 4 Division I games. Certainly will be big underdogs in the first 3, with LaTech probably a toss-up. If we could win a couple of those we could be looking at a great season.

The Ole Miss game would be considered a signature win. Tulsa and/or Creighton, either one, would be considered very good wins.

Okay, I can live with scheduling a nonDI team. I can live with scheduling a DII team. I can (with difficulty) accept playing an NAIA team. But, probably the worst NAIA team in the country? John Brown beat them by 30. Why not Philander Smith? Will they help prepare us for Creighton?

Sat, Dec 12 Memphis Little Rock, Ark. TBA

Those games alone ought to make this a pretty fair schedule. The Wright State game particularly scares me, coming right after ASU. We might be a little out of focus at that point.

I am satisfied.

I see we play Tulsa @ Tulsa on 17th at 1pm and turn round the next day on the 18th and play St Gregory at 7PM. If Tulsa wears us on on the 17th maybe it will be a pretty even match on the 18th.

If the starters have to play more than a half for that game, we are in big trouble. St. Gregory's should be an opportunity for the starters to rest and get the bench players some playing time.

Hell, I think me, LRT, mjs, PTJR and RBL can take 'em. We don't even need insideualr.

I guess games on back to back days is a good way to prepare for a tournament?

When I saw the dates posted by RBL in the first post in this thread, that's what jumped out at me as highly unusual. I thought the same thing you did about possible practice for tournament conditions with both games at home. But in looking at the schedule on the official site, it turns out that the games are not back to back:

Sat, Nov 28 - Cal Poly - Jack Stephens Center - 7 pm
Mon, Nov 30 - Oral Roberts - Jack Stephens Center - 7 pm

Here's a link to the schedule on the official site:

No. And neither would any other non-Division I team. Creighton is not just Division I, but very good Division I. However, Ole Miss and Tulsa on the road for the first and second games of the season will certainly help the team prepare for game #4 of the season on the road at Creighton.

I hadn't even noticed that until you pointed it out. If St. Gregory's is a pretty even game, even if we had played Tulsa that very afternoon, we are in for a very, very long season. In any event, I wouldn't worry too much about it and it was definitely worth it for the exposure on National Television on ESPN.

Geez.

Well, at least they used their heads on choosing this non-Division I team to play. If the game doesn't count if you win, and is egg on your face if you lose, why in the world would you want to play a team that would even have a remote chance of beating you? St. Gregory's is a great choice if were going to play these type of games. Let the entire bench play and feel good. It might be just what the doctor ordered after back to back road games at Ole Miss and Tulsa.

Wow. What a start to the schedule. We could easily open 0-4 in our first 4 Division I games. Certainly will be big underdogs in the first 3, with LaTech probably a toss-up. If we could win a couple of those we could be looking at a great season.

Playing our first four games that count on the road against that competition is definitely one hell of a hard way to start a season! And you are absoluely correct, we win a couple of those road games and we may be off to a great season. We lose them all or 3 out of 4 of them, while it doesn't mean were off to a poor season, any at large chances we may have dreamed of would probably be up in smoke already. That is short of a big time roll through the rest of the non-conference and conference schedule. Let's just hope this team comes out of the gate hot and some of the competition stumbles around a little to start the season.

I agree with your logic. But why John Brown U Lyon College? They actually won some games last year.
