It surely is. No sport, not even MLB, is as tradition-saturated as CFB. So Notre Dame can go 15 years without winning a BCS bowl or having a national title contender, and they are still a penthouse program, and Alabama can do the same and yet still attract a top-level coach like Saban, while WVU wins 2 BCS bowls in 4 years, and yet aren't considered in the same league, in terms of national prestige and can't attract a top coach to replace rich-rod.

That's how it is and it's not likely to change.

I agree with you up to a point. UF,FSU and UM were NOT considered "elite" programs until the last 20 years. So there is hope for others to breakthrough. WV's image has been enhanced by its recent success and could increase if it keeps making and winning BCS games

I don't think we disagree at all. Miami and FSU show that you can come from nothing to the elite. My point was just that even in those meteoric cases, it still took a decent amount of time.

And thus it likely will for everyone in the BE save for WVU.

You have a bit of a point here, but, the way I see it, there is a big difference between leaving for another school and leaving for the NFL.

truth is there are about 4 teams in each of the big 12 and the sec that are national champion capable teams...its not like the whole damn league is in the top 15. and the pac-10, yeah, there is USC...thats where it begins and ends. Big 10? Ohio State with Penn State taking the #2 spot right now that has rotated between Michigan and Wisconsin in the past. Its typical media, oversimplifying and overhyping. All the while trying to sound humorous.

Now the MWC is the cause celebre of todays sports media. However, Feinstein and the others must not watch much MWC football or follow anything but the current top 3 teams whose success is cyclical too.

A team is an elite team if it has a huge following. Why else is Notre Dame automatically ranked if they win a game? Why else do we see the same teams in the preseason polls every year? They are 'names' and have enormous followings - both in person, and on TV...

Even when WVU was getting respect, we got the least respect of any top 10 team I've ever heard of getting. RichRod got more publicity with the worst team in Michigan history than he ever got in Morgantown. The more fans a team has, the better the chance of their making the polls...

LOL, I 'm not sure that that was the type of publicity that Richrod really wanted at Michigan, you know, he is the coach who led Michigan to its first losing record in like 30 years, and the worst season in Michigans history.
