Reds won it when Darnell McDonald scored on the wild pitch with Drew Stubbs at the plate in the bottom of the ninth. First wild pitch of the year for Jesse Chavez. McDonald singled with one out. Craig Tatum followed with a single. McDonald went to third on Paul Janish's flyout to deep right.

Kip Wells vs. Daniel McCutchen.

I counted the fans in the right field seats -- 29 of them, four ushers to seat them.

Wells went six innings, allowing two runs on two hits. He walked four and struck out two.

REDS' FIRST: Drew Stubbs led off with home run. It was the first leadoff homer for the Reds this year. Stubbs had three homers for Louisville in 107 games. He has two in 12 games for the Reds. Reds 1-0.

PIRATES' SECOND: Wells got the first two hitters. He then walked Lastings Milledge and hit Ronny Cedeno with a pitch. Jason Jaramillo singled home a run. McCutchen got another run in with his first big league hit. Pirates 2-1.

REDS' THIRD: Stubbs singled and stole second. Drew Sutton singled to get Stubbs in. Sutton went to second on the throw how. He moved to third on Joey Votto's groundout. Scott Rolen singled to get Sutton home. Reds 3-2.

PIRATES' SEVENTH: Carlos Fisher, fresh off his outing in which he faced five batters and retired none, gave up leadoff triple to Cedeno. Stubbs had a play on the ball but missed. Jaramillo singled Cedeon in. Tied 3-3.

Ramirez, Barker here, no moves announced
Posted by JohnFay at 8/31/2009 4:28 PM EDT on Cincinnati.com

The Reds did not announce any move. But Kevin Barker and Ramon Ramirez were both in the clubhouse after Game 1. The Reds also have to make a move to get Johnny Cueto on the roster.

Reds transactions
Posted by JohnFay at 8/31/2009 4:52 PM EDT on Cincinnati.com

The Reds made the following moves:

--Johnny Cueto was activated from the disabled list.

--Ramon Ramirez and Kevin Barker were promoted from Louisville.

--Matt Maloney was optioned to Carolina.

--Carlos Fisher was optioned to Sarasota.

--Laynce Nix was put on the DL with a bulging disc in his neck.

Since Maloney and Fisher were optioned to teams whose seasons end, they can be recalled after tomorrow when roster are expanded.
