Not waver?
Other teams are "not wavering" from a 8 home game, 4 road game philosophy...and others have a 7-4-1 philosophy (i.e. Alabama, Florida...and even Georgia during many seasons, etc...).
Why change from something that works?

Is there any team that is --or is planning to -- consistently scheduling an 8 home/4 away schedule. There teams that do this from time to time, but most large teams schedule a 7 home/5 away schedule in general. What Notre Dame is planning to do starting this year is pretty unprecedented, which is play an 8 home/4 away game every year -- the 1 "neutral site" game is essentially a home game for them both in terms of how the stadium will be filled (how many Cougar fans will be in San Antonio?) and in terms of TV and revenues.
Alabama is kind of a good example with a real 7-4-1 type schedule recently (2007-9) but (1) those neutral site game have actually been neutral or worse (Florida St in Jacksonville is somewhat different than Arizona St in Dallas) and (2) they'll be playing a regular 7/5 type schedule in upcoming seasons with away games at Duke, Penn State and Tulane in the next few years.

The first 4 of my "rival" matchups should be the 3/1 concept ala msu/cmu, emu, and wmu...yet, the next 4 games, pitt/temple, sf/cf work as 1/1...pitt should play maybe arkon in a 3/1 matchup...i think a umass/uconn game at fenway would be great to showcase college football in new england...which is the whole key to trying to develop some rivals for big east school's, such games lift the sport and all school's, so what if its against lower tier football school's...a full house at fenway to watch umass/uconn would rock.
