My sentiment exactly. It's time to stop waiting for other bowls to find us appealing, and create our own on the nation's biggest stage...

Thats the whole point. SEC got bunch of bowls in its backyard. Of course those bowls want SEC teams. Same can be said for the B12 and the ACC. PAC-10 is the only conference sort of in the same shoes as the Big East.

That being said, BE has to establish its own bowl and its own territory. NYC would be a great start with the new Giants/Jets stadium. I wish they would put a roof on that but they didn't. Last I checked games at those stadiums still sold out even in freezing weather.

I don't think our fans would have a problem with an outdoor game in New York City around New Year. Bring your current squeeze, and huddle up under a blanket to keep warm. You could spend the holidays in the Big Apple, attend a great game, spend some more time in THE City, and go home with enough memories to last a lifetime...

What bowl game will be canceled for this NY bowl and who does the Big East play? NFL games always sell out.

For someone in Tampa, maybe. But the rest of the country wants to head where it's warm during the winter.

And NYC is a very tough place to travel to during that time - airports are clogged, hotels are high-priced, etc.

Not saying a NYC bowl couldn't be a good thing, just saying it's not all chocolate and roses ...

Count me in, too, as having come around on the New York thing.

As for the opponent, who? Seems all the top spots have been taken, and we'd be relegated to a distant runner-up in a major conference.

Perhaps this is something we should have been working on before putting the effort into the Sun Bowl?

RE: BE still shopping for bowls
The SEC to the Gator whispers may be in the form of a hybrid, rather than a straight move, in conjunction with the Big Ten. In other words, the SEC would go to the Gator twice and the Cotton twice, while the Big Ten would go to the Cotton twice and the Gator twice. The Big 12 would remain the anchor team for the Cotton while the ACC would remain the anchor team for the Gator.

What that means is the Big East needs to put on a full court press to take the Music City Bowl from the ACC. No way is ACC #6/#7 more attractive than Big East #3/#4 plus one year of Notre Dame. We would also be guaranted an opponent from the SEC there. Marinatto has no choice but to get it done because Swofford just screwed him royally from behind by sneaking into the Sun.
