The ACC has stated that it wants a total of 10 possible bowl bids (counting the BCS), so adding the Sun, that means at least one current-ACC bowl will be available.

I'd really like to think that we could oust the ACC from the Music City bowl for our #3 team. Right now, the MC would seemingly be in line to take ACC #7, and by gosh you'd think that our #3 would be worth more value than that.

But, my gut tells me that this won't happen, and our #3 will remain with Meineke.

If we do pick up another bowl or make some changes, it will be down in the very lowest reaches, maybe dumping the pizza bowl by ousting the MAC for the motor city bowl or somesuch, nothing really significant. Or maybe picking up the MC (motor, not music, city) and keeping the Pizza as a 6th bowl.

Why? It would be good if we could put our #3 (or #4 or #5) in something like the EagleBank or even GMAC, one of which the ACC is likely to drop. Both pay as well as Meineke and would boost our money compared PJ or INTL.

But, are we the only conference interested in these kinds of moves? Nope. E.g., the Big 12 is now out of the Sun/Gator and thus looking for a spot for its #5. And the Big 10 and SEC might covet those bowls as improvements for their lineup as well.

Call me a "negative Nancy" if you like, but IMO the most likely scenario is:

2) Champs
3) Meineke
4) International
5) PapaJohn's

I am not as negative as you are on this issue. I think we wil end up with one of two scenarios.
#1 We pick Music City for our #3 with Meineke #4
or
#2 We pick up Emerald, Las Vegas or Independence for our #4 with Meineke remaining #3

Music city has history of changing conf. BE3 with possible BE2 1yr and possible ND 1 yr you would think would be a viable pick. ACC could be #7 if 2 make bcs.

that's a good point, really it's only the BE #3 in two years. They get the BE #2 once and ND once, i theory. You'd think that would be very tempting to a bowl like the Music City.

RE: krocker or quo vadis
The ACC might want 10 bowl bids but that is not going to happen. Would you sign a deal with ACC #10 if you were a bowl? Thought not.

I think the Big East has to go hard after the Music City spot that the ACC currently holds. Offer them Notre Dame once every four years.

The Meineke would also have to be offered Notre Dame once every four years to prevent them from dropping us out of anger like in 2006.

I would go after the Emerald, but for our #5, if that does not pan out. The St. Pete opponent needs to be upgraded to Big 12 #8 as well.

RE: krocker or quo vadis
Krocker, if the BE offered 1/4 ND to the Meineke, how much of a payout increase would that warrant? That bowl definitely needs to be >> $1MM.

RE: krocker or quo vadis
I am not sure how much the increase would specifically be, BJ, but the Meineke knows they need to up the payout no matter what. UofL07 is the numbers guy but I do not know if he has thought about something like your question.

If the Meineke can get to $1.5 million or more, they could retain #3 outright, but might ask for Notre Dame once to make the hike worth it. Otherwise they get passed by another game and have to settle for #4 against their wishes.
