The Liberty won't forsake C-USA as long as Memphis is a member.

Then that means the Music Bowl.

We gotta go take one of those Tennessee bowl games. I don't know how the Liberty Bowl could want the CUSA champ instead of BE#3/ND.

The Liberty Bowl is not obligated to taking the CUSA Champ. They can take whatever team from CUSA as long as they have 7 wins.

That being said, the BE would be more of threat to maybe unseat CUSA (even with Memphis in the conference) if the perception of the conference was better. I also would not care if the BE got the LB if CUSA could get another bowl with an equal payout. Personally, I think CUSA takes a hit playing the #9 team from the SEC especially if it is our champion and they lose (which they have the past two years).

I know you are NOT trying to tell us that the BE has a worst perception than CUSA. 03-lmfao

That's what the contract between C-USA and the Liberty Bowl says, but it's never happened. They tried to take Memphis a few years back, but ESPN quickly nixed.

Is it time to pull out L-Yes's old "you shut the f*** up, We'll take the Liberty Bowl" sig? 03-lmfao03-lmfao

Music City Bowl would be a good bowl for the Big East. However, much like the Liberty Bowl, the #1 priority of the Music City Bowl folks is to maintain the SEC affiliation. I have no idea if they plan on keeping ACC.

That's because you don't live here. The assistant director and many Liberty Bowl board members are Memphis grads and fans. They want to support whatever conference Memphis is in, and they are smart enough to know that they need the support and goodwill of Tiger fans. The one time they even discussed the idea of replacing C-USA they were shocked at the negative response from the community. On top of that, the bowl game has been doing very well with C-USA vs SEC - there is no pressure to change.

RE: So where does the Big East go from here
Independence pays SEC and Big XII roughly $550,000 in cash and gives the schools $550,000 tickets to get to a $1.1 million payout.

Liberty gives the SEC around $700,000 in cash, the rest is in tickets (I've heard CUSA gets roughly half that in cash).

To get either game, Big East is going to have to take less guaranteed money and then can do whatever ticket deal works.

Make sense. C-USA has USM and Memphis, who will draw nice crowds to the bowl, and an SEC west team that will as well. Lots of SEC programs are within very reasonable driving distance of Memphis.

They can keep drawing their 55,000 or so regularly with those tie-ins.

RE: So where does the Big East go from here
It will be interesting to see where the Big East lands. It would seem logical that the Liberty would trade up for a #3 AQ team over the prospect of getting a western non-AQ team....but who knows? For a CUSA fan, that's the big tamale...they're going if their team is in it. For the Big East fan base, it might be regarded as a tougher sell for that #3 team.

I'd like to see a CUSA #1 vs Big East #3 at the Livberty...that would be a fun matchup. Ya'll want the coveted AQ vs AQ match up, and I understand that. Just don't think the SEC #8-9 vs BE #3 will do much better than what it's doing now from a perception standpoint. Not saying anyone is better than the other...just sayin...it's not going to rock anyones socks off, IMO.

Yes it would, but the day that a bowl in Memphis Tennessee ousts the SEC for the Big East is one that probably won't come in our lifetimes.

Of course, i could be wrong ...

Well ain't you just full of yourself?!?! The fact that ECU took 5,000 more fans to Birmingham than USF did and the C-USA tie-in with the Liberty Bowl is generating near capacity crowds and good TV ratings is the reason why they do not want the BE #3. Notre Dame was the only card you guys could play to get any attention.

Come out to Vegas. Direct flights from everywhere and a new fun bowl destination for you guys. BE #3 vs MWC #1 (or 2 if we get in the BCS) is likely to have two ranked teams at least some of the time. Big negatives are that it is pre Christmas and we have the stigma of non-AQ (although our reputation is improving).

Las Vegas won't be so bad either. LV is the #1 destination in America. In addition, I go there 4-8 times a year. What's the payout for Las Vegas Bowl? They will have to raise it to $1.7M range for the BE #3.

disappointing but not entirely unexpected, if we can take the music city that would be fine by me, our options are kind of limited right now i guess the vegas bowl is a possibility but i'm not too wild about a west coast bowl.
