RE: ND did NOT have to be a part of Champs deal
Let's bury this quote right now. Hogan was saying that stuff to be nice and put the most positive spin possible on the new arrangement. The Champs Bowl clearly wanted Notre Dame involved. It's not like the guy was ready to sign a deal and Marinatto suddenly threw Notre Dame on the table. Hogan, unlike Catlett, knows how to treat his business partners and was going out of his way to praise our conference without realizing how it sounded. If we had signed with the Gator again, by contrast, Catlett would have talked about Notre Dame for an hour, maybe mentioned West Virginia for five seconds, and totally ignored the rest of the Big East. The people at Florida Citrus Sports are classy and know how to put on an event in a way that everyone will enjoy.

The old boys network at Florida Citrus Sports has been called many things...but "classy" has generally not be one.

They put on a nice New Year's Day Game...and are trying to build up a successful 2nd bowl game...but much of what they do behind the scenes is FAR from being Ron Burgundy like.
