Nobody leaving that's returning. As I understand it, all thirteen on scholarship are here on campus. You can read into that anything you want. Anything else will be gravy. As we're always told, things have a way or working themselves out.04-rock

Which means Neighbour is not coming, or won't be on scholarship.

Doc, if perhaps the best recruit we have had in a while is not coming, that is not a "not to worry" situation.

I wouldn't think a foreign kid would come over here without a scholarship. I'm beginning to think that we've been had on this Will Neighbor situation. How many players over the years have we signed that were supposed to be the second coming of something great, to find out at the last minute that for some reason or other they aren't coming? Neighbor will make about the third one out of this recruiting class that was supposed to be super recruits, that for some reason or the other, aren't going to be here. I realize that one of them, and I can't remember which one, evidently was a thug, and I certainly don't won't that kind of player, but again, we were built up to think that this recruiting class was going to be great. If Neighbor doesn't show, that will be about half of the class of '09 that didn't get to Little Rock.

You have to try, but it sure is disappointing when they don't show up.

A highly-regarded recruit not coming and rumor of 2 D2 games.

Sweet.

From what I've heard about him, I hope he shows, but I've always had reservations about recruiting foreign kids. Seems like many of them get homesick and go home, or play a year or so here, and go home to play pro ball.

Alex Rodriguez (was that his name? Center from Spain played in the 90's?) stayed all 4 years, didn't he? And he didn't light it up, but he was a pretty good one.

He was a big fellow who was like a bull coming down the court. Never was a great player, but I believe he contributed some.04-cheers

Alex Rodriquez evidently was a Juco according to the Trojan Bible, the Press Guide. It lists him playing in '93-'94. I remember him being pretty good as a rebounder and banger inside, but not a big scorer. Pete Maravich wouldn't have scored in double figures under Jim Platt. Shield's offense would be considered "run and gun" compared to Platt's. His team pretty much walked the ball up the floor.

I give Platt most of the credit of being the architect that led to the dis-interest and downfall of the Trojan program. He took a team that went 20-10 with most returning, and went to the NCAA, to a 10-20 record the next year. And we were in the TAAC both years. It wasn't like the 20-10 team was in the TAAC, and the next year went to the tougher Sun Belt and went 10-20. Most of those fans who left, never returned.

Jim Platt was really a nice man. He was a neighbor of MJS, who I think knew him pretty well. But he tried to control every movement on the court, and his teams just couldn't function under his coaching. As a person, he was great. I remember visiting with Mike Newell one night at Coy's Steak House the year after he went to Lamar. He said Platt was trying to fit square pegs into round holes. In other words, he was taking full court type players that were left from the Newell ere, and making them into half court players. It was a disaster. I remember a Georgia Southern game at Pine Bluff. It was so bad, Mike Hamrick, the AD, got up and left before the game was over. I think it ended something like 43-42. I don't know who won, but who cared. Pitiful.03-banghead

You might be pleasantly surprised as to who might end up the best recruit we've had in awhile. Cicic, Garcia-Mendoza, Louzeiro, Davison, and Thornton could all turn out to be very good players. I still think this will be a very good recruiting class, even if Neighbour doesn't make it to campus, which he could still possibly do. I'm not counting him out until school starts and he's not here. Let's hope he makes it in.04-cheers

Derrick Hall was in one of my speech classes at UALR and I remember a speech in which he talked about his life as a player for Jim Platt. It sounded pretty awful. He tried to control every aspect of their lives it seemed on and off the court. You could tell that Derrick was not too happy and was venting in a very diplomatic way. He did not disparage Platt as a person, he just reported the policies and the rigors of his program in brutal detail.

Well, on the basis of what you said, either he is already on campus or he is not on scholarship.

If we don't "find" him a scholarship I can't see him coming. Maybe "III", if he reallly has a scholarship, will give it up for the good of the program- probably not. One question I don't have an answer for is, would Neighbour have to pay instate or out of state tuition? If the answer is instate, there might be a very small chance he would pay his own way but I really doubt it. No way he would pay out of state fees.

How in the world could he be eligible for in-state tuition if he doesn't live in-state?

He has to pay "out of continent" fees.

Reasonable question, Scotto. I just wondered if maybe athletes fell into a special category. Did Bails have to pay out of State tuition during the season he was ineligible?

Well, I'm confused. All I can say is, "I know nothing, I know nothing."
