Almost everyone in CUSA loses an easy conference win in football.
Devil's advocate...
Over the past four seasons I believe the Tigers are .500 in football.
It would definitely mean that at least someone else in C-USA could finally win the conference in basketball.

RE: Looks like we are going to have to replace Memphis.
Conference growth in the future will be driven by one thing and one thing only: TV coverage and advertising revenues. The SEC deals with ESPN and CBS mean that every conference in America now is chasing them in the money realm. And no one is even close to the SEC. The ACC, Big East, Big 10, Big 12 and Pac 10 are all eons behind financially. In fact, the SEC's new deal is greater than what any three of those leagues now make in TV deals combined.
Memphis is not the solution the Big East will seek. It will not do anything for its revenues in any sport except basketball. What you are going to see is a shake-up of the existing conferences with realignments and mergers. I would wager within five years, you won't see Memphis to the Big East, you will instead see a Big East/ACC merger of the top-tier, top-revenue, top-ratings schools to form a superconference to compete with the SEC.

Once again the Louisiana Techhie chirps in to trash C-USA.
Your football team backs into a bowl game, your 2nd in 20 years, and you are a powerhouse....a powerhouse that depends on $5 Mill subsidy, courtesy of the La taxpayers. You have yourselves a good coach - for now. Meanwhile your baseball and basketball teams haven't reached NCAA tourney in 2 decades.
Meanwhile the Techhies paruse these threads hoping someone leaves in the flailing hope that La Tech will be the replacement....that $5 million in taxpayer subsidy goes mighty fast flying to Idaho and Hawaii as La Tech looks at its reality in the face - the sunbelt, if it will have them.

hmmm... hard for me to picture how that plays out. I don't think Any member of the ACC wants to be in the same league as USF, Louisville, Cincinnati, West Va., or Pittsburgh. And I don't see any of the current ACC members getting voted "off the island," so to speak, in order to bring in UConn, Syracuse, or Rutgers.

At least you haven't been left out of a major conference despite fielding highly relevant nationally programs in the not too distant past like we did in 1993 for teams that were better at the time but did not really make a name for themselves in major college sports (Failor, Trek).

Guys, it's truly time to stop with these threads because not only are they killing kittens, they're killing reindeer as well. RIP Blitzen...
Please stop, before we kill Christmas. The more threads like this, the more that die and eventually I fear Rudolph will fall victim too. Save Christmas.

Did you know those high flying Techies only sold 11,000 tickets to their home game last year against Miss State? The highest profile game evere played in Rusttown could not draw even a half full house of paying customers.

That's mighty interesting. This Techhie got me so annoyed last night that I hopped to their board - and what did I see? Critique and criticism of OTHERS' attendance, when debating who they should play ooc. Particularly ironic was the La Tech criticism of Tulane drawing only 16K to Shreveport when they played Miss State there......which I believe was in the September after Katrina hit. And yet Tech sold 11K tickets to Miss State?

They degrade others yet are no better themselves. I just saw a post on the Sunbelt BB Board where a tecchie was critical of UNT and their "erector set" stadium yet Tech has the mother of all erector sets for their venue. They dug a hole in the ground, filled it in with aluminum sets up to ground level then built an erector set support system on which they added their other shiny seats. Looks good from the air but no better than most high schools when seen from below or ground level.

Although I believe there's a less than 1% chance of Memphis winding up in the Big East, I think it's infinitely more likely to happen than what you propose.

Mathematically speaking, what you just posted makes absolutely no sense. I'm sorry: an infinite amount of no sense.

I think their are some negotiations going on that get Memphis Admins and boosters excited...sure is a lot of consistant smoke coimng out of memphis... maybe the rumors create their own momentum. I believe the higher ups at memphis believe they are getting an invite...sooner or later.

Topcoog, Do you think that the money folks at Memphis float this rumor to get the fanbase excited in order to sell more tickets & get more donations?

Yes, that's right. New Orleans cleared out August 29th and the game in Shreveport was played September 17th.
