So your 27" widescreen TV will probably seem about the same as your 24" TV. Is it worth the money at that point?

Go to RadioShack and buy an HD antenna.

http://www.6ave.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=PANTCL32C12

$453.11 after using code "AFL5"

Hope that's close enough to your $400 mark.

You don't need an "HD" antenna (no such thing officially, anyway). Regular antenna will work. If you want the best results, get a directional antenna like a silver sensor. It looks like an arrow and picks up signals from a limited direction. I have used one in the past and it worked great. Cost should be around $20-$30, less if you order it online.

I don't know the exact set-up, but whatever he has he gets over the air and it's a great picture.

Another thing to consider is that you might be surprised by what you get with basic cable. I have one of the most basic subscriptions and there are a number of HD offerings that don't cost anything extra.

oh i'm sure the picture would be good, i'm not complaining. i dont need HD. i can watch sports without it. i'm not fussy

You say that till you watch football or hockey in HD then you will sing a different tune I guarantee it!

i've seen football in HD. it's nice, but not necessary. as for hockey, what's that? is it that activity they televise on Versus?

the $400 mark is for the TV not for an antenna

The link is for a Panasonic 32". I guess my thoughts weren't as clear on the screen as it was in my head.

reason? i have a 24 inch tv right now. it's 4 yrs old and the screen size is good enough. I would definitely prefer a 32, but is there a reason other than the fact that it's bigger?

mlb pretty much already answered but a 24" widescreen (16:9) is going to look tiny if you are used to 4:3. In my experience honestly anything smaller than 40 looks kind of small in widescreen. Besides unless you dont have enough space for it why wouldnt you want to go bigger if the price is the same?

i completely agree, i just wasn't sure if there was a reason i wasn't aware of. all in all i think you guys have convinced me to get the 32in. i have the money and the space so i might as well go for it

Costco carries Vizio and often runs some pretty good sales. If time isn't of the essence, it may be worth waiting it out.

Don't go just by what you saw in the store, swoosh. They could have all kinds of issues, including not putting HD to the Vizio while putting HD to the Samsung. They also may not have it set to 1080i or 720p, but instead 420i on the TV. It happens all the time in these stores.
