Wide receiver Julius Shelby (Hillside, Ill./Proviso West) was in Champaign, Ill., on Saturday for the Nike Football Training Camp at the University of Illinois. He hopes some of the things he learned lead to his first scholarship offer.

"Going through the drills I learned a lot from the coaches," Shelby said. "I learned some things about developing my speed. I liked watching things, then going out and executing them. It was all good."

The 6-4, 195-pounder was a first-time varsity starter during his junior season when he caught 25 passes and scored three times. His goal is to receive at least one or two scholarship offers before the beginning of his senior football season.

"Western Michigan, Arizona and New Mexico, those three schools I think are close to offering," Shelby said. "Western Michigan is my favorite. I did a lot of research and I talked to their recruiting coach. I think I can fit into their offense and get the ball there."

Shelby plans to work out at Western Michigan's football camp on Monday. Other schools on his list include Illinois, Michigan State, Indiana and Northern Illinois.

Our QB's have been generally good. They need someone to get the ball to.
