A big species is particularly aggressive. A couple of years back it was a lil species that raised welts. This year it's a bigger mosquito-doesn't leave welts but they do itch like crazy. And they come after you in CLOUDS. All that rain earlier has promoted them.

I got bit a few times last year, that was while on my trip back to Michigan to see the Stanley Cup playoffs.

The purple martin population living in our lake shoreline martin house has skeeters afraid to venture near us.

They are the best defense. Used to have six houses and a hotel for them, if I was late putting them up in the spring they would be flying in raising hell while I was setting them up, very funny.

We've had very few mosquitos in my area, Phil. I've been amazed. Especially with all the rain. I think part of it is the very cool nights. Bugs aren't too thrilled when it gets down into the low 40's at this time of year. But with the temps moving into the 80's next week, and warmer nights, we'll be in for it.

Did you know that there are spring mosquitos and there are summer mosquitos? Two different types. One is smaller than the other.

What are these "mosquitoes" you speak of?

Must have all died of frostbite at night up here in Saginaw Valley.

All I have to do is walk across my back yard and I'm covered with welts. You folks who haven't seen them yet just wait two weeks. With all this rain they're going to be vicious this summer.

I don't have to wait two weeks. They're HEEEEEEERE! I got eaten alive working outside for two hours this morning.

Okgc - I think it's the spring mosquitos that are the small ones, but I don't remember for sure. I just know that I remember reading that one season's skeeters are smaller than the others. I think the article I read also said that there are actually thousands of species of skeeters, although we don't get nearly that many here. I believe it's New Jersey that has the most - about 60 different kinds.
