So, Don't you think it would be a good idea to have as a defined goal for our football startup, to go to the FBS level? I would think that the Big East or C-USA would both like to have a member in the Atlanta market. I really believe that it would only be natural for a 28,000 student, research university in the deep south with over 100,000 alums in the Atlanta area to have a sports profile belonging in a major athletic conference.

welcome on guys... since I am not very well versed in CAA Football I will ask you, it appears that they have things broken down for conferences that have football to keep the discussion seperate... as we gain members do you think that is something worth doing here?

I would say no to be honest with you. Keep it as is. These boards are great.

Mike that would be great, but my main concern now is attendance. I have yet to see a concrete business marketing plan on how the department plans on filling seats. I run a very successful real estate sales business and my suggestion to them would be the following:

1. Hire sales pros and get the willing and able alumni like me to volunteer.

2. Prepare scripts, outlining opening statements, answers to objects, etc.

3. Call every single alumni in the database and start season ticket sales.

4. Offer buy-one-get two free tickets to all the alumni so they can bring friends and family.

5. Hire alumni and current students as volunteers to stand in front and pass out fliers and free tickets to all the high school football players and fans after each Friday night game.

That last one is crucial. It is imperative for us to start courting young talent and putting G-State in their heads while they are in high school and playing.

I really hope the athletic marketing department has something like this planned otherwise it will be a flop as far as attendance is concerned.

What's the latest on GSU getting football? Have they already decided on it, or is it still under discussion?

We had one recruit on campus 08-09 and first recruit class of 27 (IIRC) will show up this summer. All readshirted. All getting in shape. First game is 2010 in the GA Dome.

Nice, wasn't aware it had progressed so far. If the CAA ever shakes up, I hope they can get another southern school or two to help their geographic position and GSU. The conference is too spread out and IMO needs to focus on part of the east coast or the other.

Yep I like it too. If there are no ads how is this site going to have cash flow to keep it up?

I agree. Now that UAB has ended their football program, there is potential spot for GA State to move up to CUSA.
