RE: Campbell Leaving
The worst thing that ever happened to the SoCon was the loss of Marshall.

Let's say Jacksonville becomes a very good team. That could possibly happen under Cliff Warren. If it does I still don't think anyone in the city of Jacksonville is going to care. Belmont and DAVID lipscomb suffer from this too.

I agree about Marshall, Gold. It really hurt when they left. Not in basketball, but the loss of a football power. It was interesting how fast they became successful in Division 1A after moving up.

At the time, I think losing ETSU was an equivalent loss for the conference basketball-wise.

RE: Campbell Leaving
Back to the Cambell discussion, I don't believe Campbell leaving hurts ... as long as they're not replaced by someone even lower on the rung (I know it's hard to believe, but the brains at ASun seem to be able to find the lowest caliber teams available).

When ETSU first joined ASun, one of my first thoughts (after "What's an ASun?") was, "How could they join a conference with Campbell?"

Of course, there have been the obvious additions of Upstate, etc. since then.

I think losing Marshall hurt basketball as well. Perhaps it wasn't the same loss as it was too football...on that I can agree. But the sea of green in Asheville was one hell of a sight.

Kevster,

I agree with you but I don't forsee the A-sun replacing campbell with a team that is of the kind of caliber and prestige that we are used to.

Who besides a D11 or D111 would have any interest in joining the a-suck. Oh heck, I forgot ETSU did.

If it is between pulling in another D2 school or staying with what the A-sun has....I vote just keep what we've got and let us play more out of conference games. Assuming that 2002 is correct and the A-sun is not in ANY danger of losing it's automatic bid.
