University High grad in 1988; BBA in 1992; my mother worked for ETSU for 30+ years; football season ticket holder from 1977 to 2003; basketball regular attender (but generally not season ticket holder) 1977 to present. Moved away for a few years but always followed the Bucs.

B.S 78 M.S. 81 Regular fan of football/basketball since eary 70's. In 68 I will never forget getting to watch a game where Swift played. I think the Bucs played Arkansas State that night. Have loved the school and teams ever since.

I've been going to ETSU basketball games and following the team since the early 1960's.. I was there to see Swift, Kretzer, Woods and those guys play all the way up to today.. I never got to see Tom Chilton play. he was before my time.. but I heard lots of stories about his shot..
Remember when Chilton and Swift played there was no 3 point shot..
Skeeter made tons of shots well behind what is now the 3 point arch..
Think abot how many points those guys would have scored..and look at how close they are to Timmy and Greg and all the top all time scorers..

I know that Willie Malone claims personally that if the three point shot had been there in his day he'd lead ETSU in scoring.


However, there is no way I can buy into those guys being better than Mister. Mister is the most special player I've ever seen.

Bucten - BS '64 Raised on Buc Sports. Have seen administration apathy toward ETSU sports since Coach Bell made application to get ETSU into the SoCon and the comptroller withdrew the application just days before the vote. Watched how the administration butchered the proposed basketball arena and proposed football stadium plans and substituted the 'not really good for anything oil drum' that no coach wanted.

Whenever any coach or group tried to move ETSU forward they were either dismissed, interfered with or forced to give up their ideas and beliefs.

ETSU sports has always been treated like the proverbial 'red-headed step child'.

Interesting information Bucten. Can you tell us more about the plans for the proposed basketball arena and football stadium prior to the mini dome? When I first came to ETSU from out of state in 1974 the dome was under construction.

I remember President DeRosier used to have big plans for ETSU sports. He came to a graduate class one time and talked to us about playing Norte Dame in football some day. I kid you not. It must have been about 1979 or 1980 during the days of Charlie Lodes and the good baseball teams.
