The Box Tops
The Box Tops are a ground breaking 1960s group made up of five friends from Memphis Tennessee who first charted in 1967 with a song called 'The Letter.' In fact they were the first Memphis artists to record in Memphis and have a number one record! During 1967-69, the group released 4 albums and 10 singles. 'The Letter' remained at the top of Billboard's chart for four weeks in 1967; their third single, 'Cry Like A Baby,' hit the number two position for two weeks in 1968. Both records went gold at initial release, with 'The Letter' selling over four million copies and 'Cry Like A Baby' over two million.

Just a reminder that you can buy discounted tickets on-line and avoid the lines.

That's too bad you feel like that. They work closely with the neighborhood to accommodate their wishes and co-exist as amicably as possible.

THE LETTER !!! This song is a rock classic done by several groups/people and done best by Alex Chilton ... and the BoxTops.
Joe Cocker with those Mad Dogs and Englishmen run a close second.

Somebody go and tell me if A.C. is indeed still fronting the BoxTops and how his voice sounds. The dude could write and sing with the best of 'em.

While I haven't talked to him lately, I expect him to be there. I think Evans and Talley are doing it also.

They were out here a few years ago with Sam the Sham and Davey Jones of the Monkees and were by far the best performers of the night.

My wife is one of those who didn't realize The Box Tops made all those records until she heard them performed at the concert.

On one of the oldies stations in the Dallas area, The Letter is one of the most played songs, as listed on their web site.

Apparently "as amicably as possible" means nothing over a whisper is allowed. The year Diamond Rio played was easily the most awful set up I'd ever seen as far as acoustics go. If you were more than 20 rows away, you literally couldn't hear a thing.

The festival has outgrown its home, but moving it hasnt been discussed lately. I know from personal experience, the neighborhood dreads that weekend every year, but it always makes the best of it. Last year, car break-ins spiked and several homes right across the street had problems with drunks doing things in their yards that shouldnt have been done. The event is a blast and is way better than anything that happens at Memphis In May. The thug crowd is minimum and security in the park is everywhere. Once you leave the park, your on your own. Anyone that misses it is missing a great time.

Everyone has an opinion. Its nothing like BBQ fest. No loud drunks, fights or obnoxious people. Security sees to that. Plus, its NEVER a mud fest at Italian Fest. Its rained a few times, but never like Memphis In May ALWAYS gets.

Does anyone remember the year Phil Vasser played? To me, that was by far the best from an entertainment standpoint.

Last year with the Little River Band wasnt bad either. For what they charge to get in and the free entertainment, its a bargain. And to the fella posting where to meet women. BEST looking women in Memphis gather at the Italian Fest.
