RE: ND baseball sweeps WVU
Ah well. The Mountaineers were bound to lose a series before the season ended. Notre Dame did well to hold WVU to 6 runs total in both games. It just wasn't our day. Perhaps the Mountaineers should have saved some of yesterday's output...

However, if we go into Tampa and take 2 out of 3 with the Bulls, WVU's still in the driver's seat for the conference crown...

Give us time. We'll get there soon enough... 05-mafia

It should be a fun series. You'd better hope the Bulls' pitchers are better than WVU's hitters. Today, Notre Dame's were. But that ain't often the case. We'll find out more shortly, won't we... 04-cheers

Instead of posting in my usual manner, I've decided to express my opinions through interpretive posting. Enjoy.

Notre Dame's "half" conference affiliation makes me want to 03-puke.

Notre Dame should be given a choice.
1) :ugaexams:
2) 04-bolt

Until then, ND should get 01-lauramac2 and 03-nutkick by all BE fans and any wins ND gets over Big East teams should count the same as 01-rivals

"Half"??

Isn't it more like 23/26ths?

Other than football, hockey and lacrosse (the last two of which there is no BE conference right now), aren't all of ND's other sports playing in the Big East?

Less than half, Terry. Football's income far exceeds the income generated by all other sports combined. The minor sports are irrelevant in this discussion...

If football isn't part of the equation, we don't need Notre Dame. The Irish need us...

I wouldn't be so quick with that annointment. It's at least a 3 team race. UofL gained a game on USF and two games on WVU this weekend. The standings are now:

USF 12-3
UofL 11-4
WVU 11-4

WVU plays a series in Tampa next week and USF closes the season out with a series in Louisville. The computer numbers won't mean much because likely only the conference tournament champ will make the NCAA's, but WVU appears to be the 3rd choice if we're taking odds on a regular season champ. Prior to road wins today by the Cardinals and Bulls, UofL was rated 63rd, USF 88th, and WVU 98th.

I know it's just one game and anything can happen, but by-and-by, there's No excuse for a Florida-based college team to lose in baseball to a Philly-based college team.

That's like if UT-San Antonio beat Minnesota at hockey.

USF won the series and no is NOT like UT san Antonio beating Minn in hockey. First of UT-SA does not have a team and I bet there are a hell of alot more kids playing baseball in the philadelphia-NJ area than in san antonio playing hockey.

By the way try to explain to me how Tulane lost in baseball this year to LeMoyne? You can say the same about a school in louisiana well known for baseball losing to a school in Syracuse NY

I agree it is very similar, and I think all Tulane fans were embarrassed by that. Beating LSU when they were ranked #1 in some of the polls has at least helped to ease the pain.

The San Antonio/hockey thing was meant as a joke. Wild exaggeration to make a point.

Baseball is the type of sport that if you have ONE good pitcher you can beat anyone if he is on. Specially college ball where ther is not a great amount of good pitchers. So thats why they play three games series.
So at the end of the day Im happy USFat 12-3 is in first place of Big East. We are still not a great team but Coach P is building one and each year we are getting better.

Good luck with that. USF is well-placed to be a national power in college baseball, and baseball is a sport whose time is fast coming in terms of intensified national fan-support and media-attention.

As a young South Alabama baseball fan in Mobile in the 80s, I well remember when Robin Roberts (later Eddie Cardieri) brought the Bulls to town to face Eddie Stanky (later Steve Kittrell) and the Jags. Mobile was a town that gave a lot of deep support to USA, and whatever was going on in the Sun Belt Conference was big news in the local papers. Of course, Roberts' status as a HOF pitcher for the Phillies didn't hurt.

Robin Roberts had some good years those were the glory days of USF baseball. But after that I think first with the attention on basketball and later on in football we let facilities in other sports go down the drain and baseball suffered. Right now our baseball stadium is worse than most florida schools including FAU and FIU. Our new copach is building up fan support and plans are there for a new baseball stadium that would then put us ahead of every school in our state.
