RE: Flynn Signed With An Agent
Now that we know that Flynn has not signed with an agent, Its being reported on Forbes.com and a local news station in Syracuse that Coach Boeheim is now saying that Flynn may be back and that he will not sign with an agent at this time.

If the LeBron connection rumor is true I think I like Flynn. If he has a chance to go at 8 that's a whoe lot better than going 20 in terms of guaranteed salary. I no longer have the numbers but let's say pick 20 gets $700,000 a year for two years then pick eight gets about maybe $2 million a year for two years than its better to sit out the draft if you think you can improve your position by another year in college.
If Flynn passes that up then he's coming back to not only benefit Syracuse but to benefit HArris and Devendorf. They can all raise their stock with another year at Syracuse. Harris and Devendorf really don't have any stock at all but a year can make a difference.

I suppose it is possible. The current point guard for the Knicks Chris Duhon has a two year contract for $12 million or $6million a season. It expires at the end of the 2010 season. He's ok but I'm would not pay him $6 million in this economy. If I were the knicks I would be looking for someone either cheaper and about the same as Duhon or better than Duhon and a bit more expensive. You are correct about the NBA salary cap. I have posted the chart for the NBA rookie cap for the 2008-2009 season. The column headings are below. The higher up you are drafted the more salary you make. See below:

RE: Flynn Signed With An Agent
Great job TJ.

So if Flynn goes this year as projected at 19 he would earn about $3.6 million over three years. If he rose his stock and came in at eighth next year he would earn about $6.5 million over three years. If he came in as the third pick he'd earn more than $10 million for the three years. That's an incentive to come back and hope you can kickass. OF course that's not assuming inflation or any NBA "salary adjustments" because of the recession.

My understanding is tht second reounders have no guarantee contracts int he NBA.

Not exactly. Devendorf sat out a year with an injury and has a year's eligibility left. nobody can make him graduate- I'm sure there's still som basketweaving courses he'd like to add to his transcript.

RE: Flynn Signed With An Agent
Looks like Flynn did sign with an agent. Bitcruncher, your wish has come true, you will never have to worry about Flynn at the college level again.

Jonny Flynn and Paul Harris made an appearance at Manley Field House on Wednesday afternoon to play some pickup basketball with their Syracuse University teammates.

Both players declined to comment on the always swirling, always shifting rumors about their plans for the upcoming basketball season. Flynn later told syracuse.com blogger Ryan Miller that he had indeed signed with Creative Artists Agency Sports, thereby ending his Syracuse career.

The agency represents, among others, NBA stars LeBron James, Tony Parker and Allen Iverson.

"It really was hard to leave Syracuse, the city I've grown to love and fans I've grown to love, but at the end of the day I had to do what was best for me and my family and what you feel is best in your heart," Flynn told Miller. "I hope the fans can understand where I'm coming from. It was a hard decision but hopefully fans won't have a bad feeling whenever Jonny Flynn's name is brought up. I loved college
basketball and loved representing the city of Syracuse."

Flynn was the first of three Orange men (Flynn, Harris and Eric Devendorf) to publicly say whether he had hired an agent or planned to hire an agent, which terminates a player's amateur status and ends any possibility of returning to SU.

The university announced April 9 that all three would declare for the NBA Draft.

SU coach Jim Boeheim said Wednesday afternoon that he didn't know whether any of the three had signed with an agent.

"Could it be today when that happens? It could," Boeheim said. "What you're looking for won't be found until they make a decision and make it public. It will be their decision on what they do and when they do it. It's out of our hands. . . . They put their names in. They're obviously (thinking about) what to do. They could go. And they have the option to come back."

Boeheim wanted to specifically clarify rumors surrounding Paul Harris, who had called The Post-Standard on

Monday to say that he never authorized SU to declare him for the draft. Boeheim said Harris misunderstood the release, believing that SU officials had somehow officially entered his name in the NBA Draft.
Meanwhile, SU players the ones who are definitely returning have been working out regularly at Manley. Players said they've spent the past few weeks lifting, shooting, playing pickup ball and staying in shape.

The intrigue surrounding their teammates, they said, hasn't impacted their routine.

"It doesn't really change the way you prepare," center Arinze Onuaku said. "Either way, you would attack the (offseason) the same way, whether they were here or not."

"It's kind of exciting for the guys, to see what their options are," said forward Wes Johnson. "Sometimes, it's kind of distracting, but more so, it keeps us focused on what we have to do."

Scoop Jardine, who missed all of last season as he nursed a leg injury back to health, will be one of two SU point guards next season. (Jamesville-DeWitt's Brandon Triche is the other.) Jardine said he wants to shed about 10 pounds from his current weight of 200. He has worked diligently, he said, to improve his shooting technique.

Jardine said he spent last season soaking in basketball knowledge while watching Flynn from the bench. From Flynn, he saw the intensity, the leadership and perhaps most importantly, the conditioning the game requires. Flynn's departure, Jardine said, offers opportunity.

"It's opportunity for everybody, not just myself," Jardine said. "We've all got to take on bigger roles as part of the team to get where we want to be."

Jardine said he understands if SU fans are concerned about the potential departure of the Orange men's three top scorers. Jardine, like every SU player interviewed Wednesday, "would love to have them back if that's what they wanted." But SU players said they can't dwell on something they can't control.

"We're definitely going to be a great team if they come back, but even if they leave, I still feel like we're going to be a good team," forward Kris Joseph said. "We're losing something, but at the same time, we're gaining a lot. We get Scoop and Wes back, plus the freshmen, so we'll still be a good team."

"The good thing about us is we've got a team that's pretty loaded," Onuaku said. "Even if those guys leave, we've got replacements coming in and we've got guys who have been playing from the jump who have been contributing."

"I think everybody's excited about next year," Johnson said. "If they do come back it'll be extremely exciting. Without them, I think we'll still have a wonderful year."

I don't understand your point. Whether or not Devendorf decides to use that final year of eligibility, all indications are that he's not only close to graduating, but plans to do so. He can still graduate and use that eligibility, he'll just have to take some grad school courses. Are you implying that the only way he counts towards our APR is if he uses all of his eligibility AND graduates? Because I thought all he had to do was get his degree in a timely fashion for it to count, but I admit to being a little unclear on that stuff.
-Chris
As far as I know, you are correct. Devendorks athletic eligibility is in this case a seperate issue from his academic eligiblity. If he wanted to, he could still meet the criteria to get his degree first and still be eligible to play his final season of basketball.

RE: Flynn Signed With An Agent
I wish him well. I enjoyed watching him play and I think he will have a good career in the NBA. He's a smart kid and he will learn from the coaches and the veterans once he is in the league. Although it is most likely going to work out for him as he will most likely be a top 20 pick in the NBA, it is a mistake for many players to sign with an agent before getting evaluations from the NBA scouts and GMs. I think a lot of player listen to their friends and needlessly throw away a scholarship and a chance for a free education by signing an agent. There are many cases where people declare for the draft early and sign an agent and then end up being drafted in the second round or end up without being drafted
