Jan. 31, 2005

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington State guard Thomas Kelati has been named the U.S. Bank Pacific-10 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for January 24-30, commissioner Tom Hansen announced Monday.

Kelati, a senior from Walla Walla, scored a career high-tying 27 points on 9-of-14 shooting, including 7-of-11 from 3-point range, in leading the Cougars to their first win at Arizona since 1984. The win over the No. 11 Wildcats also snapped a 48-game losing streak to ranked opponents. In addition, Kelati contributed seven rebounds and three assists in the win, and his seven 3-pointers were a career high. His performance against Arizona followed a 17-point, nine-rebound, four-assist, two-steal effort at Arizona State.

For the weekend, Kelati averaged 22.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists while shooting 53.3 percent (16-for-30) from the field and 47.1 percent (8-for-17) from beyond the arc.

This is the first weekly honor for Kelati, and Washington State's 15th Player of the Week all-time. It is the first weekly honor received by a Cougar since Marcus Moore was named Pac-10 Player of the Week Dec. 10, 2001.

In addition, Kelati was named national Star of the Week by Collegeinsider.com.
