Blake Jenkins verbals Bruins
6'6" 190lb. wing/guard from Bearden HS (Knoxville) has verbally committed to Belmont. Actually had an offer from Va Tech after his Jr. year, but did not commit. Was a McDonald's AA nominee this year. Likely redshirt candidate to add some strength and because Belmont is crowded at his position next year. Looks like he could develop into a very nice player. He is also the son of former Vol Fred Jenkins.

Does anyone know how big he really is? While doing some research on him listed anywhere from 6'5 170 lbs to 6'7 210 lbs... pretty big difference between the two, but I hope it's the latter.

Don't know for sure, which is why I listed him in the middle of all those numbers. Also, one other little tidbit, I heard he finished 2nd in the dunk contest at the TN east/west allstar game. Ian Clark wasn't even invited. I don't think his senior season was as stellar as everyone had hoped. I heard he injured an ankle and that may have contributed to that. He may not have had much help on his team either.

Wasn't this the guy who was a previously committed 3 start recruit for Va Tech? If so, that's a steal for us! If he's too undersized we can just redshirt him and give him some time to bulk up.

Yes, he is. That was after his Jr. year and he said he thought there'd be more hi major offers, so he waited, but they never came. In the end, Jax and Evansville were possibilities but he wanted to stay near home. I haven't found much recent info on him from the recruiting services. I think either he or Noack will redshirt. Jenkins is on the skinny side and probably could use a year of college cooking to pack on a few lbs.

According to the Tennessean, Belmont was not expecting to sign anyone this signing period. This conflicts with what we've read on Blake. Does anyone know what is up?

I read the same article and Byrd was quoted I believe, not specifically about signing anyone just in recruiting in general. I noted that they did not indicate that Belmont would be signing anyone, but I know coaches can't talk about a high school player until they sign. Additionally, Belmont has never been in a big hurry to release the information about their signings.

Just going off articles and interviews with Jenkins from different Knoxville media outlets I'd say it's pretty safe to say he's coming.

RE: Blake Jenkins verbals Bruins
I saw Jenkins play this past Christmas at the Arby's Classic (a holiday tournament in Bristol, TN. that attracts high school teams from across the nation and overseas). At the time, we were recruiting his teammate, Nathan Parker, so I was paying close attention to that particular game. We've sinced backed off Parker, or ran out of scholarships, but I recall thinking tht Jenkins was clearly the better of the two.

In any case, that's a solid pickup for you guys. With his size, length, and athleticism, I suspect he'll be an impact player, perhaps pretty early on in his career.

RE: Blake Jenkins verbals Bruins
Thanks for the insight Bucfaithful. Clearly we hope that's the case. We haven't had the caliber of athletes coming in before that appear to be coming in this year.

Know It, welcome to the board! That's pretty specific info. Any other insights you'd like to bring to the board? I think it's safe to say as a fan base, we're pretty excited about Mr. Jenkins's decision to attend Belmont.

Afro4pres, thanks for your contributions as well. Nothing like eyes on for evaluations. (re: Noack)
