Anybody's guess at the 3. If we can't find a good 4 and 5 out of all the big bodies we are going to have in here, it's our own fault.

Steve has already all but said Courtney will be the starter at the 4 spot. Will Neighbors could be in the mix if he signs with us and could also play some 3. Curtis Jackson will probably back up III at the 2. 3 spot will be up for grabs. Davison and Cicic look to be the folks there. Curtis Jackson could also play a little here. 5. Thornton and Spuriel will make a strong bid for the starting job. I'm not so sure that Smith and Bails won't both be gone. Never know from one season to the next around here. You might notice I edited McBride out who was listed as a possibility at the 3 before he was kicked off the team. IMO he won't be here now.04-rock

How can he say that with three guys coming in who might play there that he hasn't seen yet?

He obviously has seen them enough to offer them a scholarship. He stated positively that Courtney could be a three year starter and an all league player before he's finished. Of course he could always change his mind. That's just what he said at the Tip In Club luncheon.04-cheers

I think we all believe Courtney has that sort of ability, but Steve's statement seems a little premature to me. Especially when you have a double-double guy coming in.

Upgrades and down grades

pg: +

we are upgrading in a big way with bozeman and foster combo. Both kids are true pg's and that is a plus over bp and moore. bp was a utility player that should have been used at the pg for a few minutes a game and all the back court positions. Moore was a scorer that would have done a lot better off the bench.

Sg: -

Mouzy and Jackson are a bit of a down grade without Moore in the mix. Then again this could be addition by subtraction. Two shooters that have a lot to learn about playing Shields defense. Jackson is still growing into D1 basketball. The speed of the game is faster than him at this point. Mouzy is like Grawer at MU when Quin took over, they will look to play someone else every year but end up playing him.

Sf: -
We have none. We have a 6’5” shooter of all shooters on the way but no one has a clue as to what we are really getting. Replacing bp and fowler will be a tall order.

PF: -
Losing Edwards will be hard to replace. + we lose a Jackson…
we have two coming? Someone help me out? The new Neighbor kid is a pf right? 6’10 and 200 lbs.

C:+

Same kids and they will be better

One of the coaching staff told me that Davison is a lot like Fowler. A former football player who is really tough on defense. Probably average on offense, but can obviously score. But will he be able to take all those shots with Steve's offensive scheme? Probably not. But could take over Fowler's role in time.01-lauramac2

Just from his description he sounds more like a very tall 3.

With his ball handling skills, being a former 6'2" point guard, he could very well play the three. He shouldn't have a lot of trouble getting his shot off.04-rock

Which means, we could be 6-9, 6-9, 6-10 on our front line.

I hope getting a shot off under the basket for this guy does not involve putting the 06-basketball on the floor first. Why do some guys do that? I can understand needing to dribble to avoid traveling when you need to move your feet to get in position to shoot, but I see it happen every time they get the ball as if it were a spinal cord reflex.
I want to see catch and shoot (or dish) without the hesitation.

You wouldn't think it would be that hard, but it seems like the ability to consistently make a 2-foot put-back is an exceedingly difficult thing these days.

What really makes me mad is those people on the other team always trying to interfere when you're trying to put the ball in the basket for two feet. Very inconsiderate of them.01-lauramac2

If they whack your arm, that's one thing, but there are a lot of must pure misses of point blank shots these days.

That's very cute, Doc. But seriously, do you remember at least a few times when a guy caught the ball at point blank range and had a clean look at the bucket and then took the ball down and dribbled it instead of just putting it in?

I apologize for digressing in this thread. Let's get back to discussing next year's players.

At my age, the term "dribbling" makes me very nervous.03-weeping
