Although I hate to pick against my Bruins these look like the two strongest teams in the conference and will most likely play in the championship pending they don't blow it in the tourney. But I will say look out for Belmont, lately they've been money during tournament time. What does everyone else think?

Theyve been money because they have been the best team. Do us a favor and beat JU next time you play them.

It will be interesting. By the way, a nice win for Belmont over Mercer in OT.

RE: JU-ETSU
I think Belmont has had a lot of luck and superior coaching. They've been a good little team and you should be proud of them. ETSU fans have been frustrated b/c we are accustomed to better play than what we have been getting out of the past few years. Some people blame coaching and there is some warrant to that. I really had faith in the bucs this year but last night they repeated their old tactics. It will be interesting to see if they get out of it. Talent wise...I don't think anyone has had ETSU talent in all four years we've been in this league. Production wise is another story.
I wouldn't count Belmont out. I think they defeat Jacksonville. I personally don't care if they do or not b/c I don't look for others to carry off the job that we should have done to start with. But I do think Belmont beats Jacksonville.
ETSU may not be as mentally tough as I had previously thought they were.

JU has beaten the hell out of most of the A-Sun and Ben Smith is rockin' like Dokken. It seems clear they'll lock up the #1 seed in the A-Sun tourney, giving them that highly coveted first-round bye. After that they face the winner of the #4/#5 match up which may be either Stetson or Mercer, both teams who got basically man-handled by JU. After that, they've only got one more game. Two games - Boom! Conference Champions. I could definitely see that happening.
But folks, there's a lot of conference action left to be played. NINE whole games. Things can change. I'm still over here waiting like a sucker for Stetson to get on another late season roll.
Awaitin' tourny time...

Yes, still alot of games to be played so I'll reserve final judgment until later, these were just my gut feelings. I just haven't had the same level of confidence in Belmont this year that I did the past few. They've been so shaky in the second half and Campbell is out for the year (not sure about Harris, anyone know?). I also think they lack leadership this year without Justin Hare and Will Peeples. However, like Goldfinger said, they are the best coached team in the conference by far, even with inferior talent to teams like ETSU and Jacksonville. I hope they can pull themselves back together by tournament time.
P.S.-Mercerfan, that was a great game the other night! I listened to the last parts on the radio and was sweating by the end! BTW, I just got my ship date for the AF...April 21, so it looks like I may be the class after you. Good luck man!

Harris is back playing, he was just sick for a couple of games. Hit a couple of threes today and played good D. Mercer played really well the other night and that was a great game to watch. I'm looking forward to having Ju and ETSU at the Curb, just hoping for a better performance. We're not quite as deep as I had hoped, so not having the #1 seed this year may be fairly significant in the tourny.

Nice to see you again on the board, 1883. Big one for the Hats last night in OT over Lipscomb after some of those losses (UNF at home, I still can't believe that happened.) I was also really happy for the Stetson women to win yesterday after they had 2 players lose a mom and a grandma this week. So sad.

Well you might want to recant that statement after today. ETSU beat UNF by 3....and JU lost to Upstate by 11.

I maintain that ETSU is better than Jacksonville. For some reason and I don't know what that reason is yet....ETSU is in a funk

Sometimes I don't get this league. One night a team like ETSU will look so dominant (ie. against Belmont) that you'll say...how could this team possibly lose in this conference?...and then they go lose to FGCU and barely scrape by UNF.
At this point it looks like this tournament could be anyone's game and any seed could win. Do people think this is a sign of inconsistent play by the teams, or a sign of the conference being more competitive?

I can tell you that this weekend ETSU looked like a completely different team then they have the past two months. What is the reason for this you ask? I do not yet know.

Congrats on the ship date! I'm going February 17. So I will be there still when you arrive. The base sounds HUGE though!!

Congrats to Jacksonville on the win over ETSU. Win that big game and then lay an egg at Upstate. That was a poor loss for Jacksonville.
Looks like ETSU just survived at North Florida. North Florida is really improving. They beat Upstate earlier in the week. When they played Campbell last week they gave us all we wanted and really outplayed us and probably should have won the game. We were able to pull the game out.
I think the teams are getting a little better. KSU is the weakest team right now. N. Florida and Upstate are moving up and Mercer, Campbell, Stetson are all vying for 4th place.
The strech run should be interesting. JU, Belmont and ETSU are a class apart. Maybe someone can get an upset against one of these teams.

That's what I'm talkin' about...
JU loses to Upstate and now tonight Stetson blows by Belmont 82-71 in the second half. It seems anything's capable of happening in this league.
There's plenty of season left....

Great win tonight...AJ Smith for A-Sun Player of the Week!!
Campbell ganked Mercer by 19 in Macon tonight, which I did not see coming either. The league is starting to get dicey down the stretch and that's great for fan interest.

There are several teams that understimate the Camels. We have the talent and have 11 players that are all capable of scoring in double figures. That depth may pay off down the stretch. It should be interesting. Hopefully we can keep up the momentum. Looks like we are tied with Steton for fourth. If we can lay one to Belmont on Friday third will be a lot closer.

Camelfan,
Maybe, but I don't put any stock in Mercer so we shall have to wait and see.

Calvin Henry is out for Mercer until the tournament. That's going to create some problems.
