RE: ACC: The Nations Best Conf?
The ACC has two of the best teams in the nation year in and year out. Duke and UNC will always be top five teams (at the startof the season anyway). Does two teams make a great conference? CONUSA will always have Memphis (they'll be back).
I read the numbers somewhere where Duke and UNC account for something like 70 percent of the Acc's final four appearences.
The BE is a much deeper conference with more high quality teams.
It sort of like comparing the Pac10 to the SEC in football. The PAc10 has a few consistently high caliber good teams but the SEC is a monster. ACC BB has normally two good teams (this year they have three) but its always the same two. The Be hs a nuber of teams who step up and lead the conference and the nation.

At least Roy Williams wasnt dumb enough to proclaim that they are the best conference like the idiot Gary Williams. He says that the acc doenst take a backseat to anyone, and he makes no apologies for his league. That sounds like a man who knows he is doing what is known as coach speak.

perfect example of why you guys are too senstive.
disucussing whether the BE is # 1 or 2 is not downgrading BE BB.

The ACC and BE are clearly the 2 best conf in college BB... arguing over who is #1 or #2 in any particular year is pretty dumb.

Maybe you should write to all of the sportswriters and college tv bb analysts and tell them how dumb they are.03-lmfao

It seems premature to proclaim who is best in January. I believe the Big East has been the best conference overall since realignment, but the conference has yet to prove it in March when it counts.

It's hard to compare 12 and 16 team conferences.

I think Gary Williams may have lost it. He's one his way out and he knows it. He made a negative comment about the assistant AD the other day. Practically called her a liar. After that embarassment by Duke his days are numbered05-stirthepot

You can't really compare an 8 team football conference to a 12 team one, but people sure do seem to love doing that during football season!

I really don't understand this arguement. templefootball fan is right though. ugg.. Why do we seem to care what these stupid media types say all the time. Lets worry about how our teams are going to do during the tourny run instead of Dicky V and the rest of the bunch.

Because its all about perception. If the BE is percieved to be the best, then other fans will tune their eyeballs to the BE games, just because tv folks are telling them that we are the best. It makes our games more interesting to other fans. Those eyeballs actually mean more dollars for the BE when it comes to tv contracts. If the demand is there, that means higher ratings. The higher the ratings, the more that the BE can negotiate for the next tv contract, which is very much below its worth right now.

In addition, if we are percieved to be the best, it may even mean getting that extra team in the tourney, or getting a slightly higher seed even though a particular BE team may have a certain amount of losses over another team with the same amoint or fewer losses.

RE: ACC: The Nations Best Conf?
Yeah, Roy didn't seem to go as far as K did a couple of weeks ago, where Duke's coach really seemed to be trying to sell the ACC as the best. At least that was my impression. Still, it get's old, and as was previously stated, it can determine how many eyeballs are fixed to BE games, and that can affect $'s, ultimately...
