Jan. 28, 2009
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville senior guard Will Scott has been accepted to study at Oxford University in Oxford, England.
Scott will be pursuing a master's degree in Modern Chinese Studies, a program which will prepare him for a possible position in diplomacy or business relations with China.
Only 15 people in the world are accepted into the program annually for the rare opportunity. It is a two-year program in which Scott will spend six months in China between the years.
"This is an awesome opportunity for a very much deserving young man," said U of L Coach Rick Pitino. "We're incredibly proud of Will and I know that the University of Louisville is as well, not only for his admittance but for those that someday desire to pursue a similar opportunity."
Scott, who has a cumulative 3.9 grade point average, will complete his master's in business administration at U of L this summer. He has already earned a bachelor's degree in marketing with a minor in Chinese from U of L.
"I'm ecstatic," said Scott. "Many college graduates are uncertain of their futures at this stage of their life, and I now know what I will be doing. It will, however, be an adjustment learning to drive on the other side of the road. I can't wait."
One of the finest shooter for the Cardinals, Scott has connected on 42.1 percent from the three-point line this season (8-of-19). He has scored in eight of his 11 appearances his season. He scored four points in two minutes against Kentucky, helping to spark a 12-0 second half run against the Wildcats. A native of New York City, Scott is in his third year with the Cardinals after transferring from Cornell University after his freshman year.
