BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) - Former West Virginia quarterback Pat White told athletes at a basketball banquet that they are in the spotlight even when they aren't playing in a game.

The MVP of Saturday's Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., was a guest speaker at the Mountain State Coal Classic Tip-Off Banquet. The weeklong tournament started Monday and features more than two dozen middle and high school teams.

In his speech Sunday at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center, White, an Alabama native, directed his comments toward tournament participants. He told the student-athletes that every day is a job interview and that what they do, including the people they hang out with, says a lot about their character.
If only USF's Stan Heath had players of similar quality under him...
